Addiction to Books: Sad but True

I just have to ask, does anyone seem to have an addiction to books? Whether it be buying them or otherwise?

I have finally admitted the truth to myself. I have an addiction to buying books. Whenever a new book comes out that I'm interested in or whenever I'm at a book store, I always have an impulse to buy it on the spot or the day the book comes out. Even when I go to Barnes & Noble to get a certain book I need for school, I always have an impulse to buy another "just for me" book.

I seriously have a book addiction problem. Can anyone help me?

Hey, it's good to be a bookworm, wish I was like that; just one thing: whatever you do, don't read in the dark, it'll make you have to wear reading glasses for the rest of your life!

I have an addiction to buying/borrowing/reading books!

I LOVE having a huge tower of books just waiting to be read. I find it really comforting to know that once I finish my current book, I'll be able to start reading another one straight away.

I also love buying books. It's a nightmare trying to get me out of a bookshop. Whenever I'm out shopping with friends and we're near a bookshop, they try to drag me past without letting me go in .

I can't help it, but it's fun.

Same here. Whenever I go into a bookstore I could spend up to two hours just looking around.

I have 2 shelves in my room and they have 80+ books. I have now run out of room for all of my books. so I have to pile them on top of each other using up all the free space I can.

(I'm seriously going to die in college since I won't have my mountain of books).

Oh, I'm totally addicted to buying books! I seriously can't go into a bookstore without buying like $50 worth of books. I'm trying to liquidate the books I have now as I'm moving next month, and it's still so hard to not buy new ones. Sigh.

Jenn, I'm in the same boat. I used to go to the used bookstore once a week and I think I only walked out of that store empty-handed twice in 7 or 8 years. But I'll be moving soon, so I've been weeding out my books. I've gotten rid of nearly 250 but it barely makes a dent when you have over 2000 books. I still get the urge to go on a book buying binge, but I've been holding myself back unless I see books I've wanted for years or a new paperback comes out by a favorite author.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Sometimes it's easy to forget how huge this world is and how much we have in common with others we don't know.

I have 80+ books and I don't know how I'd ever get rid of them. If anything I keep telling myself that once I get my own place, I will have a seperate room for my Star Wars stuff and a seperate room for my library.

I work in an outlet mall and we have a Border's Outlet in the mall, I have to force myself not to go there everyday and buy things I can't afford.

I used to have a separate room for my library, I bought 2 huge bookcases for it, then I moved somewhere smaller so now they're back in my bedroom - only problem is I didn't have space for the bookcases and my wardrobe - so now my clothes live in a cupboard in the hall

And still I can't stop buying them . . .

I don't have any addiction to buying books, but I have developed an addiction to the library. As soon as I finish one book, I have to get another one. I also order books from their pretty frequently. I have a 12 library books in my possession to read and this doesn't include the ones I ordered and I am waiting to arrive. I also have books I own that I am waiting to read.

I'm 20, I have something like 800+ books in my room and all of them have been bought in the last ten years. I'm not planning on stopping now. To me though, it's a good addiction. Unless you buy books when you do not have the money to afford them, you're buying a new friend for life, something that's going to share its unique experiences with you, and that you can go to again whenever you need to escape. So I think books are a good addiction. I'm also reading three different ones, I love being able to go from story to story and somehow I can keep it all straight. I think my record is nine books at a time.

I'm only getting rid of stuff I don't like. The books I love will stay with me forever. I'm looking for a house right now and it has to have three bedrooms so I can have a library. I'm getting really excited about the prospect of having all of my books in one place and on display (I had to take several boxes of books to my mom's since she has more room for storage than I do, then I ran out of room in my bookcases and I can't fit any more bookcases in my tiny apartment, so I have several boxes of books here too).

Angel, I'm in my 30's and I still have most of my children's books and I kept going from there. Since I moved to my apartment, which has a used bookstore nearby, I've probably gotten over 1000 books. When we moved here, I had more boxes of books than anything else and I'm kind of dreading having to move all of the books now since I have gotten so many more in the past nine years.

Books are my luxury. It's the one thing (besides the necessities like food... ) I can spend my money on and not feel guilty about. There's something so 'right' about reading that no one can say is a bad habit that makes it all ok for me! I love it! hehe.
