It was stormy & rainy & yucky outside all day today! It's Florida's version of a winter snow storm.

Happy Thanksgiving to you Americans!
Also, I'm fine, thanks, Jess! It's not really my place, I think, but one of the girls from the Zac/HSM fandom, Dani, has passed away. I think you might have known her? There's a thread for her at the Zac board. That's why I was so shocked. |

Thanks Joyce
Although I wish American Thanksgiving had the same meaning behind it that Canadian Thanksgiving had behind it |

Apparently Canada Thanksgiving is something harvest related while American Thanksgiving is basically when the pilgrims raped/murdered the Native Americans.

OK, well, that's not all that happened, if it even did. Obviously, I wasn't there, but ours also celebrates harvest & thanking God for all His blessings.

I think essentially American Thanksgiving is to celebrate and say thanks for the harvest just like the Canadian Thanksgiving, but the way it was estabilished (and mass genocide of Native Americans did happen, no matter which way you put it) kind of ruins the whole idea, I suppose.
But then again, I'm not American, so you shouldn't really listen to my opinions and/or knowledge concerning your traditions at all. Most that I know about American history and traditions I've learned through a few small modules in high school and through two American literature courses at uni. |

I was just reading through some things about it, and there are Native Americans who do celebrate it and look at all the positive things that came out of it. The settlers escaped religious persecution and that's what I've always learned & knew about the holiday. I don't want to debate about it. I just want to be thankful.

No, no, don't get me wrong, if you want to celebrate, by all means, do! I actually like the message it sends out in the way it is celebrated today (except for the commercialisation but all big holidays are so commercial ), but yeah, history just isn't always pretty. (The same goes for my country, though, and pretty much any country in the world, I think.)

I applaud you for trying to see the positive side, honestly!
Also, Jess, if you haven't seen this week's B99 yet, you need to watch. NOW. |
