John Krasinski Joins Meryl Streep, Steve Martin And Alec Baldwin In New Comedy

"The Office" actor John Krasinski is set to join three of Hollywood's biggest names in new Universal comedy picture.

The 29-year-old TV star will appear alongside Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin in the yet untitled comedy film to be directed by Nancy Meyers, who also wrote the script.

Meyers will also produce with Scott Rudin, who was behind some of the biggest box office films in the past years including "Failure to Launch" and "No Country for Old Men." Shooting starts in the spring.

Krasinski committed to the project during his hiatus from the NBC sitcom. He will next be seen in "Away We Go."

Let's hope the script is good. A movie can have a good cast, but without a good story it can be pretty blah. Aka..Leatherheads.
Yeah, no kidding. I'm hoping it's more Steve Martin in "Baby Mama" than Steve Martin in "The Pink Panther," you know?

Steve Martin in Baby Mama was hilarious, so I think that would be good.

Thanks for the new thread Cris!

I haven't seen Baby Mama or Pink Panther, but the Pink Panther movies look terrible. My favorite Steve movie is Father of the Bride.

Yeah, the Pink Panther ones were bad.

you're welcome, Jory

I liked Father of the Bride too, Amanda. I couldn't get through Pink Panther. I slept in the middle of the movie and only woke up with the credits.

It would be cool to see something sort of like Father of the Bride, but I doubt that'll happen.

Thanks for the news. Could be cool. I can't stand Alec Baldwin though.

See I don't really mind Alec, but he can get on my nerves.

Well now that I'm into 30 Rock I'm not loathing him as much as I was. I still can't stand the guy but he can be funny/good and likeable onscreen with the right people around him.

I'm the same way Mel. I can stand him on 30 Rock, but just barely. I hope it's a good script because that cast has the potential to be really good.

Thank you. I'm wearing McGraw.
What a coincidence, because I'm wearing Faith Hill's parfum.

I love Alec on 30 Rock, but I can't stand him as a person. I'm not sure I can think of anything else (save awesome SNL episodes) he's been in that I've liked.

I think the movie has the potential to be great, but it also has the potential to suck or just be mediocre with John so far down in the credits that no one remembers that he's in it.

It seems like he picks his hiatus roles like he's going to summer camp, which is all fine for him, if he's enjoying his break before going back to his "real job," but it just doesn't seem like it's a great career builder.

I'm sad that we don't have a new episode until March. Doesn't seem like they are taking advantage of sweeps month very well...

And interesting that John went with D&G for the SAG Awards; I thought he was a Prada guy all the way...
