Oh, I was so close to meeting them! I can't believe I didn't recognize Ed from behind the way I did John. Awesomeness!

Yep, I went to the premiere and stood across the street, but because of the protesters, we didn't get a very good view of anything. Here's my photo of John and Ed:

So, yeah, not so good. The group of us didn't realize it was John until he was most of the way across the street and he didn't turn around when we called to him.

Oh, you were so close. Too bad the protesters ruined your view and that John didn't turn around, but at least you've got to see him

Apparently the word "retard" or "retarded" is used in the movie and so proponents of the Special Olympics and other charities were protesting the movie and trying to organize a boycott. So instead of there being viewing stands just across from the red carpet and free viewing of cars arriving, there was a large barrier between the two theatres for protected celeb car exits and the red carpet was complete obscured.

It's sad that people protest outside premieres when they're trying to get people so excited about movies. However, I absolutely loathe the "r" word. Despise, disgust. Any synonym you have, that's how I feel. My mom has taught special ed for, well, let's just say she's got two years left before retirement and she's not retiring early... For a word that used to categorize those kids that I've known and been around my whole life that are practically like family, it's degrading to them that the word gets used in the most ridiculous instances. I'm thankful that my friends don't say it around me. Even if they say it elsewhere, they're pretty aware when I'm there.

Sara, I agree about the word completely. However, in the context (as I understand it since I haven't seen the movie) of the film, the characters use the word and by using it, it is supposed to be lampooning the way that actors exploit characters with mental disabilities for Oscar nominations. I'm not saying that it excuses the use of the language, but I don't think it's as heinous as it could have been.

I'm glad to hear you got the chance to go to the premiere, Jenn. I've been to only one premiere (A Walk to Remember, so I saw Shane and Mandy), and they are fun. It's too bad you couldn't get closer.

We need knew pictures of him... stat.

Deal! If I wear a tie, I will match it to whatever you're wearing.

Yeah, there were a few other JK fans standing near me and we all shouted for him, but he and Ed had jogged most of the way across the street before we recognized them and they didn't come back for us. Next time, I guess!
