I found that pretty funny when he was going to leave her there. But Pam definitely fought back.

Thanks for the mix link.

All kinds of adorableness tonight!

So do you guys think we'll get the proposal before the season is out?

I dunno. I'm kinda thinking that maybe Jim is messing with us as much as he's messing with Pam. I mean, duh, he wants to marry her, but hopefully, he knows that she's probably not ready yet. For them to be able to joke about it so well, they must have had those talks you have when you are thinking about getting married.

But I dunno. It all seems too obvious. There's got to be a twist because this show is nothing if it's not completely the opposite of the regular sitcom formula. Now that we've seen the ring and had the fake out - I wonder if it will just fade away until next season.

Im wondering the same thing. It all sounds too good to be true. And as much as I loved everything tonight and know I would love Jim proposing and these two getting married, it does seem that the timing might not be right at this time. I don't know. I still feel they're both figuring out (maybe Pam more than Jim at this point) what they want to do with their lives. Plus as you said, the show is anything but predictable.

Thanks for the link Jenn.

And I agree - as much as I loved the proposal talk, I think Jim and Pam and the writers have more in store for us.

I think the ring and the fake proposal was a little hint of what is coming, but I don't think they'll go for the marriage so soon. Even if they are counting on a time jump, it is soon for us, since we've been seeing them together for 10 episodes. I just hope this storyline leads up to a new angsty season for Jim and Pam.

I was reading some comments here and there and some people thinks Pam's face falls when Jim goes back to his desk, so she would be having second thoughts. To me she was just surprised and processing what she's just heard. What do you guys think?

I haven't been able to re-watch the episode since I'm not at home, so I'll have to wait and comment more when I re-watch. I did think her expression was interesting and I'm not sure what that was about. But, from first view I didn't think her face fell or anything. I don't know. I need to see it again.

I'm with you on that one. It all just seems way to obvious for me. And I'm thinking that there has got to be a twist somewhere.

Well, and the timeline just doesn't make sense either. If they got together in May, were found out in October (since the show is supposed to occur in "real time"), then the dinner party was in November. Even if it's been "a few weeks" that only makes it the middle of December (which it obviously isn't by Pam's coat at the end), but still. They haven't been together for a full year. We haven't seen them fight, we haven't seen them do anything else be all giggly/smiley/honeymoonish, which is great to watch, but that's not when you are ready to get married. You have to go through some hard stuff first. Jim still looks like he's in awe that he gets to touch her and Pam still looks like she's in awe that someone is actually paying attention to her. I think that needs to wear off some before they can talk about marriage.

You know I didn't notice her face falling after that scene, but I wasn't really looking for it. I think there were a lot of emotions on her face at the time. I mean, it's one thing for her to think that Jim wants to marry her and quite another for him to joke about it so casually, as if it's the most normal thing in the world.

And like I said on the Jim/Pam thread at the Office board, I think just hearing it out loud would bring up a lot of emotions for Pam. She needs this engagement to go right this time. She probably doesn't want to ruin what they have right now. She probably wanted to be doing more with her professional life than still answering the phone at DM the next time she got married. Maybe she's disappointed in herself that she hasn't accomplished everything she wanted to. Or maybe she's just not ready to get married yet - maybe she likes being on her own and having her own space and her own place.

AND she probably knows that her only option is to say 'yes,' so she needs to prepare herself mentally for that. Because though I hope it's happened and we just haven't seen it, there's been no fight, no test of their relationship (except perhaps Jim seeing Karen in Utica, but that's not really a "test"). She may realize that perhaps Jim is just waiting for the other shoe to drop and if she turned down his proposal with even a "not yet," it would break his heart.
