Ned: I had a sexy dream about Olive last night and
I'm sure it was influenced by a reality-based kiss. By the road. You know...
Emerson: There is no way for this conversation to be anything but awkward for me.



Ned: You framed someone for a murder, you ass!
Wilfred Woodruff: I had no choice.
Ned: Of course you did. Everything we do is a choice: oatmeal or cereal,
highway or side street, kiss her or keep her.
We make choices and we live with the consequences.
If someone gets hurt along the way we ask for forgiveness.
It's the best anyone can do.



Olive: How was your convention?
Ned: Conventional. How was Digby?
Olive: Neurotic. He’s a very needy dog. Do you pet him?
Maybe if you pet him once in a while, he wouldn’t be so neurotic.
Ned: I pet him. I’m allergic, so I can’t actually touch him, but I pet him.
Olive: With a stick? How do you pet him?
Ned: A stick is involved, but it’s a handle to a petting device.
Olive: A dog needs to be touched. We all need to be touched.
Ned: You touch him – other people touch him.
Olive: He’s your dog. Do you … touch anything?
Ned: Of course, I, uh, I touch lots of things.

Emerson: Uh, we need to prove Hallie Hundin was innocent.
Ned: Your conscience calls you on the telephone?



Chuck: Am I seriously the first person to question
your aversion to change? What about your ex-girlfriends?
Ned: Emerson doesn’t want to hear about any of this.
Emerson: I must admit, I am curious. Hell, before Dead Girl came along,
I didn’t know what you liked, or if you liked or if you had anything to like with!
For all I know, you could have been one of those people
who was born with both but didn’t use either!
Ned: I’ve had girlfriends, but there were always extraneous factors.
Emerson & Chuck: What kind of extraneous factors?
Ned: You know … grew apart and lost interest … had intimate relations on a bearskin rug.
Chuck: Oh, no, did it – ? [makes clawing gestures with her hands]
Ned: It did enough to be upsetting.



Ned: You're the only one for me.
Chuck: I know you feel that now, but there are things you want, there's things we both want.
Ned: So? Everyone wants stuff. We wake up everyday with a list of wishes a mile long and
maybe we spend our lives trying to make those wishes come true,
but just because we want them doesn't mean we need them to be happy.
Chuck: What do you need to be happy?
Ned: You.

- I really like his friendship with Emerson. It's funny how Emerson always pretends, that he's annoyed by Ned (and Chuck) but actually likes him and is his friend. I love how they act and talk with each other. They're really entertaining to me.
- He's so adorable (his smile/eyes and when he's embarrassed), caring and thinks so much about everything/everyone.

Emerson and Ned are hysterical. And you're right, deep down, you can tell that Emerson really does like having Ned as a friend. I don't think Emerson would have told Ned about his daughter if they didn't consider each other friends. That was a great scene.

Probably his friendship with Emerson. The two of them always crack me up. And they both seem to have the ability to read each other well.
