Moonlight's Gifted #1: Care to share?

Hi everyone!

From what I saw on the fan art thread, I thought we could use a tutorial thread. Tell us what works for you, or get inspired. If you have any questions, post them here, too, I'm sure someone will know the answer. Many Grapics Team members are also Moonlight fans, how great is that?

Jen (Scythe) tought me how to use actions in PhotoShop, and I've been using them ever since. ACTIONS ARE LOVE. If you don't know how they work and would like to know, just ask. It's easy. Really easy. I mean, if I can do that...

So... What does work best for Moonlight caps? I'm all ears.

I only use one action, and that is to make patterns.

Thanks for the thread, Pav!

Tar, are you kidding?

Okay, I'll try to come up with a user friendly tutorial as soon as I have time.

So what programs are most people using? It sounds like Pav has Photoshop.

I'd love to see the Actions tutorial, Pav. I don't think I've used those at all.

Adobe Photoshop 7.0 CE that is.

So what techniques do you guys use most? Colour layers? Selectives? Curves?

What I don't get are curves and levels. I saw a brilliant curves tutorial, but still. I'm a dummy.

When I make icons, for example, I usually play with curves (just to make the pics brighter, I don't like to mess them too much 'cause they freak me out ) and then selective color. I like the effect selective color has on the dark colors of the pics.

I usually work with Color adjustments and colored layers. Usually it's a hit and miss with me though. Sometimes it works and sometimes it looks like crap.

Something I like to do when I make banners and stuff it make the pic look...glowy

1) I start with a regular cap, duplicate it:

2) I make the copy almost black & white adjusting the Hue but not totally:

3) Then I make it really blurry:

4) I send the original cap to the front, and I set it to Screen:

5) I adjust brightness/contrast:

If the original pic is already bright enough (unlike the one I chose for this example), I'd set it to Overlay instead of Screen on step 4
