What else did they retcon?

I wonder that too

Oh, man. Well, this isn't a retcon so much as a, "We don't want to deal with the story we wrote, so we won't." But in season 6, Hyde's infidelity is never mentioned at all. Jackie and Hyde's split is treated as if Jackie and Hyde broke up for generic reasons -- and even puts the emphasis on Jackie, as if she had any real responsibility in them being apart.

Since the other retcons aren't Jackie/Hyde focused, I've posted about them here: http://www.fanforum.com/f27/its-been...-9-a-63220883/

You're welcome!

I would've loved to see a deeper storyline in season 6 when Pam came back to town. Getting into Hyde's childhood -- not to co-op what Jackie's going through but to show them connecting through their shared trauma. Real!Hyde would be supportive without complaint (about Jackie, at least) instead of the reluctant support he gives her in the show.

I also would've liked to see another Thanksgiving with Jackie and Hyde -- maybe in season 3, an ep that would've given us an epilogue to "Jackie Bags Hyde" (3x08) and maybe, just maybe, hinted at the future (but that would've taken different showrunners during that time of the series).

Have been rewatching the show recently. Joined Netflix and T7S was like literally the first thing i decided to celebrate this subscription with Seriously though, helps a lot to keep my mind from some unpleasant things so i can smile and laugh at least a bit. I started from S5 of course and gotta say that Hyde and Jackie are still the best freaking thing i have a pleasure to witness each episode, so basically almost nothing changed since five years ago when i first saw the show. Well, except for the fact that i had a fortune (and misfortune at the same time) to meet my own Hyde and now can relate to a lot of aspects in J/H relationship, so in a way this time around their story also helps me heal, i guess.
Today i caught a glimpse of a season that should not be named, though. Just a couple of minutes, but it was enough to literally feel violated. Traumatazing event, so i came here for a support

I'm sorry you're going through some rough stuff. This has been a tough year for a lot of people.

Sounds like your Hyde ... did not do well by you?

That's exactly how it feels whenever a season-8 ep sneak attacks me on TV. Just remember: it's not considered canon by T7S's long-time director. So it's basically officially not canon.

Thank you. Yeah, this year was not the best one, that's for sure. And the fall weather during the whole summer wasn't helping me, too.

Oh he did well by me. And than he didn't. And then again he did. And after that he didn't. And then... I guess you got the picture
Let's just say that if we put his "Hyde best qualities" aside, the whole package also came with a lot of qualities no one should tolerate in order to respect themselves Never was going to work out anyway for a lot of reasons. But i'm grateful for all the lessons, memories and emotions i've had. Guess it's the right way to deal with such an experience in your life. Like Eric in S4 opener I just wanna keep it all, doesn't matter good or bad.

I always find comfort in that fact, yeah. As well as in Danny's words. And of course i myself, even with a worst fever there could possibly be, will never consider that thing a canon Though it upsets me a bit that apparently other actors weren't disturbed with everything their characters had to go through. Seems like they saw the scripts, had no questions, and just went with those abismal storylines like it was no big deal at all. Guess in the case of T7S going so deep into analyzing the characters and the show itself is mostly a job for the fans And clearly not for all of them cause i've seen a lot of comments like "chill, it's just a simple season of a simple sitcom, so why all the fuss"

Sam, from what I've seen in other fandom spaces, more casual viewers who don't think critically (or analytically) about TV shows -- or T7S, specifically -- don't have much issue with season 8.

Maybe T7S's writers wrote your relationship. Because that sounds like Jackie and Hyde's in during seasons 5 and 7. But I'm sorry your relationship was so frustrating and that it brought you pain.

I understand all of that.

Yeah, some shows are just a job for people, and they don't put that much stock into their characters. But on Star Trek (the original series), for example, Leonard Nimoy was very protective of Spock. Whenever a script would have Spock behaving in a way that was against his established characterization or disrespected Spock, he said, "No. Not happening," and offered a suggested change -- which was in-character and respectful.

Nimoy was very much against what he called character drift, and I've read about other actors who fight for their characters to be written consistently in-character or with more respect, too.

Unfortunately like in So-Called-Season 8 too.
Thank you, Lisa. But it brought me good things too, so that's...well, good. Besides i'm still actually trying to be friends with him.

Amen to the actors and writers who are so devoted to their jobs! To me it's the absolutely natural thing to do, to be honest. Characters, either you're playing them or you're writing them, are a part of you. So of course you should treat a part of your own self good and with dignity
