It would've been great if we'd gotten episodes in S7 that explored J/H's characters / relationship without the need of splitting them apart. Seeing how they deal with different stressors -- like taking care of a baby -- could've been both funny and character-developing.

Speaking of J/H, I dreamed an alternate ending to S8 for them last night. An actual dream, not something I consciously made up.

It takes place in a parking lot. Hyde wants Jackie back. He knows now how in love he is with her, but Jackie has a different mindset. She's come to her own, peaceful conclusion, and she's using this meeting between them for closure.

"You're my everything, Steven," she says, not in anger but in explanation.

I'm your everything? Hyde thinks to himself, surprised and not unhappy. Like he'd never really understood this about her.

But then she says, "That's why I have to let you go. I won't be able to move on with my life unless I do it. I won't have a career -- I won't have anything." And she's smiling while she says it, like out of relief and joy for herself for coming to this conclusion.

Meanwhile, Hyde's heart is breaking because he thought he'd have a chance to live the rest of his life with her. But Hyde being Hyde lets her go.

Ugh. Is that better than the actual ending we get for them in S8? At least in my dream the characters are in-character, but ... It reminds me of "On with the Show" (716).

Aww, that sounds so sad Lisa, but it's something in character that could have happened. I actually might have been okay with that....as long as they still got back together.

So, speaking of J/H living happily ever after, if their S7 storyline would've gone differently -- as in, no rehashing of Jackie's marriage obsession -- what kinds of stories would you have wanted to see for them?

I just think just a natural growing of their relationship. I didn't need a proposal, but maybe they could have discussed moving in together and eventually it happening. Jackie could have explored her career more, with input from Hyde. I honestly always wanted Jackie to go to college too. There could have been natural drama and comedy moments from any of those situations. What about you Lisa?

My take on how S7 should've gone for Jackie and Hyde are spoilers for the comics' season 7, so I can't share. If I don't get that far in the series, though, then I'll share here what would've been. But it would've gone almost entirely differently than what we got on the show.

I would've liked an episode in S7 showing how happy Jackie and Hyde are, and Eric's exasperation over it because his relationship with Donna "never goes that smoothly". Hyde and Jackie would explain their system of communication when they're angry at each other, and it totally fits them -- but when Eric tries their method with Donna, it backfires.
