They were trying to "spice up" the show a bit and get back into the season 1 mentality

I really don't know. All I know is that they messed up big time. I mean, Jackie and Fez just came out of nowhere! If they got together before Jackie and Hyde then it'd be okay I guess, but they didn't! Jackie and Hyde really was the best couple to come out of the show besides Red and Kitty. Even Eric and Donna got old after a while IMO.

I think the idea of sending the show back to its roots for it's last season, when it had been moving forward for the previous seven, was

to begin with! And then the storylines they came up with were so unbelievably unrealistic that I can't take any part of it seriously anyway.

Word! Jackie/Hyde were totally Red/Kitty in the making.

I'm sure those parallels weren't an accident. Unlike with Jackie/Fez, actual thought and consideration had been put into Jackie/Hyde's relationship. The only thing season 8 convinces me of is that Jackie/Hyde are worse off apart!

anyways i feel a big j/h season 8 rant post coming on.... so brace yourselves.

what bothers me is that david trainer said he tied up all loose ends of jackie's relationship with kelso and hyde so she could move on to fez. he definitely did for kelso...but didn't do that great of a job for hyde. (Unless burning each other is closure) hyde was really hot and cold about jackie's relationship with fez

the episode hyde finds out about her crush on fez, he says something like, "If he makes you happy then go for it" which was sincere. but then he goes, "and i also hear bob's availabe...and the garbage man..and the garden gnome."
and i guess this is supposed to make her sound like a whore?
(i don't know what the writers have done to jackie

The burns have gone hardcore especially when he finds out about jackie liking Fez.

JACKIE: Look I am not gonna sit back and let Fez try to pick up other women. Much less fat chicks. Yeah I mean maybe if we go together, he'll see that we're perfect for eachother. So, I'm coming.

HYDE: Fine. But if you get in the way of me setting things on fire, you're getting set on fire.

later that episode hyde gave beers to apparenltly the "skankiest, sluttiest drunkest" chick and introduced her to fez. he claimed he did this cause jackie called the cops on him and the fact she was only at the bonfire to get with fez.

these were like his reactions with kelso and jackie's relationship.

then after all the big fez/jackie war hyde tells fez,
"I know you wanna run after her but as your friend I am not gonna let you"

with this being said, your supposed to tell me he's over her?

oh and my favorite season 8 statement from donna..
DONNA: Man, I can’t believe I’m not gonna be around to see you two together. It’s gonna be one of two ways. It could be a disaster OR a catastrophe.

i know this is supposed to be a joke, but it's the one thing i can take seriously from this season. lol.

so i don't know how those loose ends were tied up after all this. i don't think they really knew how to give jackie and hyde closure. they'd actually have to say, "Jackie and Hyde aren't together because..." and there is actually no reason for them being broken up. that's why they used a bunch of misunderstandings to finally end them. (the stripper)

their relationship was right and it felt like they only broke up in season 7 so they could take another step in their relationship. (like engagement or moving together) i don't think danny and mila knew how to act like they were actually over for good.

Look at them!
Oh yeah, they definitely didn't do it on a tree somewhere in Keep Yourself Alive.

After reading the transcripts you posted, it's clear that Hyde wasn't over Jackie! Not in the least...I can't believe the writers didn't run with this

I wouldn't worry about what he said on any S8 commentaries. On the S7 commentaries, he called S8 a coda/variant of T7S, which ITA agree with. S8 was nothing like the rest of the show.

And I doubt JF would've lasted anyway, her list certainly had nothing to with feelings while Hyde seemed to act like a little kid picking on the girl he liked. I see it as the series happened to end when Jackie was just doing anything she could to pick herself back up again. I think, where the series happened to leave off, both JH were in deep denial about their feelings for each other but later on they'd come to realize they're not over each other like they previously thought.

Maybe they secretly didn't want JH to be over either.

I know they're really close so they probably loved doing the JH storyline. And Danny's also a self-proclaimed hater of S8.

What I found interesting was the the creators claimed that they focused too much on relationships/love and that was why they wanted to return to "season 1" during the last season. To me that makes no sense because every form of entertainment (show, movie, book, play) focuses on at least one love story between the characters.

I think they just should have stuck with the old motto: if it's not broken don't fix it.

And it's like, okay, you want to focus on things besides the relationships, but did that mean you had to break everyone up and shove THREE new couples in our faces? Couples that made absolutely no sense? Jeez...we're going to have to move this convo to the S8H thread soon

As for Danny and Mila, Danny wanted Hyde and Jackie together!

Also, I went to a bunch of season 8 tapings and Danny and Mila were always around each other. At one point, she was even sitting on his lap. They were/are extremely close. I can't even imagine what they went through with Jackie and Hyde splitting apart. As actors, you just put so much into your characters, especially on tv shows, so to have something like this happen, is devastating.

That's cool that you saw how close they were in S8 even when JH weren't together. I could always tell how close Danny and Mila were through their interaction in the scenes.

S8 didn't even go back to the show's roots, S1 was actually good. And while there wasn't as much couple angst there was quite a bit of focus on the Eric/Donna development. S8 was just going stupid, it was a different show altogether.

It's a stupid idea anyway, after seven seasons why on earth would you try and go back to season one? Particularly with character development. And trying to force the relationships back to the first season type ones was a ridiculous concept, you can't just wipe out J/H and be done with it.

As dumb an idea as it was, they still failed to really bring the show back to S1 anyway. Whether moving the show forward or attempting to bring it back to its roots

, JF still don't fit into that equation. Backwards is JK, forwards, the way time actually works, is JH!

And as for them not trying to focus on relationships in S8... well, what we got stuck with were no where close to true love whatsoever!
