To be honest I wish we had gotten more scenes with them not going at each other. It could have deepened their bond.

We should've gotten that in season 6, during Red's recovery from his heart attack. I think/hope the writers originally intended to develop Eric and Laurie's relationship more positively.

I can see Eric and Donna bonding over taking care of Red and trying to help Kitty out. It could have been a good storyline for them. It could have brought out Laurie's more serious side.

Maybe Laurie would've felt the need to confess all her bad behavior to Red, who keeps saying, "I'm not on my deathbed. Stop telling me these things!"

I can see that scene happening and it would be funny and sweet all at the same time. Who knows, it could be therapeutic for Laurie to do that.

I like to think maybe Laurie would also talk about some of her hopes and things she wishes for.

I wonder if Red would realize anything from learning about his daughter's low self-esteem and unfulfilled dreams.

Because it's Laurie, he might even take a feminism class or read a book about it so he could understand how his outdated attitudes about gender affected her self-esteem growing up. Yes, that's optimistic, but it's possible.

Maybe he would try to make more time for her in general and just listen.
