A season 8 episode was on tonight here in Brasil....
I actually watched part of it... There was a scene were Hyde says to Donna how dificult is to get over someone when you've been with that person for so long. Then he said that one day he caught himself thinking about Jackie... There was a great cue to start bringing these two back together..... Instead.. on the very next episode, if I'm not mistaken, Jackie makes her ridiculous "perfect man list" and we all know what hapened after that!!!

Ana, those S8 writers, unfortunately, had no plans on ever reuniting Jackie and Hyde. They didn't like them as a couple, so they made sure to keep them apart. At least the writers didn't write any of the characters as themselves, so the whole season is invalids as far as I'm concerned.

I mean, just on a basic level, Hyde would never wear a pornstache. Already established in season 6. So I have no idea who those people are in S8 with the same names as our beloved characters.

As I so often say, I don't consider S8 as part of the T7S canon. It was a different show with different characters who happened to have the same names and were played by the same actors (and used the same sets).

I tried watching it on Netflix (I'm writing fanfic, so I thought it'd be good research, ya know?)...and I couldn't stomach it.

No, I'm serious.

I actually got a little nauseated.

And even the end of the S7 - were those writers on CRACK?!?!?!!?!??! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?!?!?!? Of the final episodes of the 7th season, my favorites were the ones where R/K & J/H go to a car show and when Kelso asks J/H to be godparents.

(Don't know if you noticed. I love J/H together. I do.)

Seriously though - regardless of who you thought Jackie should end up w/, the complete GARBAGE that Jackie had to deal w/ was just cruel. C'mon, seriously, Jackie Burkhart working in a salon SWEEPING UP HAIR?!?!?!?!!?!?!?

I can't watch any episode of S8 without my stomach clenching, so I know the feeling. And half of season 7 is very hard for me to watch.

The new writers they hired to write S8 didn't know and/or respect the characters they were given and forced them to behave in ways not true to them, as established over the rest of the series.

And in S7, the regular writers had clearly burned out. You can see this happening in S6, too. There are moments of brightness in both seasons where there's actual character growth, but there also many throw-away episodes and conflics created from a forced (and, in Jackie's case, regressed) place instead of from the characters' fundamental cores.

And, for sure, for fanfic!
