I was flipping channels earlier and caught a promo for That '70s Show on ABC Family. Apparentley they're kicking off the show with a marathon on July 4th.

Right... But it's a sitcom not the real world. They writers did it in a way where it was funny. Come on, sleigh bells on the front door? Sitting in the basement with the kids? Having them all try to push the Vista Cruiser down the driveway? It's funny! It's not supposed to be an example of good parenting...

I'm pretty sure stuff like that happens in real life. At least I've heard of things like the bells on the door. It's not an example of good parenting, but people probably do it and sometimes it gets the job done. This is coming from someone who didn't have parents like that (no groundings being the big thing, but my dad is almost Red aside from grounding me because they just wouldn't work with me when I was younger), but I know people who had parents who were worse. That's how I feel about it, though. It's a comedy, not a drama.

I totally agree. Stuff like that does happen. They just heighten it a little to make for funny television. Which it was.

I had to come up with a bunch of ways to say just that last semester in one of my classes. It was difficult trying to say why something is funny in a comedy and sad in a drama.

I saw another example of this today when Red told Eric that he would teach him how to play basketball and then made him do 100 pushup-type exercises before actually starting on the playing. That would have been child abuse in a drama, but it was funny on the show. I think it's funny mostly because, as we all know, Eric is a small guy and I can't imagine him actually being able to do that many. It was very exaggerated, hence the funny.

They showed Wilmer & Laura at the UFC fight on Saturday night. Wilmer even spoke to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson just before he entered the ring. lol Rampage went on to lose his title.

I don't know if I want to read that every day. I don't think this is the type of thread that actually changes titles anyway. We'll definitely have to use that somewhere though. On a thread that moves faster. Maybe the next OT... Despite the fact it's not OT.

For some ungodly reason, on TV over here, we have suffered through S8 TWICE! Twice, and we haven't seen any of the earlier seasons on TV since about 2000. Stupid Australia.

We need a new thread.
