Red’s All Over the Dial

I’m not going to let this damn heart attack stop me. So I can’t work or drink beer or go to the market and scream at the incompetent bag boys. As far as I’m concerned, I’m still young. I’m simply a young man who happened to have had a heart attack.

Today I did something that an old geezer would never do. I listened to FM radio. I was in the den, listening to the game on AM 860 (News, Sports, and the Wacky Wisconsin Weather!). The Packers were in the toilet by the end of the third quarter, and I couldn’t take it anymore. So I started flipping around the dial, trying to find something else to listen to, and there was nothing.

Now if I were some stroke-ridden wrinkle-face, I would’ve just sat there, listening to the Packers get slaughtered like the commies on D-Day. But I’ve got the spunk and curiosity that comes with youth. I grabbed the mode knob on the hi-fi and switched to FM.

I have to admit -- at first it seemed strange. There was almost no static. The voices were different, softer. The commercials weren’t yelling at me. It was a different world of radio. I could get used to this. This is how a football game should sound. I could listen to the Packers get their asses kicked every weekend if it sounded this good. So I started searching all over the dial, but there were no games. None. There was some pansy talking about European pinko politics. There were lots of DJs playing incomprehensible noise. I even heard someone talking about a dumbass musician who bit the head off a bat.

I’m back to AM. I have taste, I’m not old. In fact, tomorrow I’m thinking about calling up the phone company and talking to them about switching to Touch-Tone. I’d like to see some old grandpa do that!

That part made me laugh, too. I like the idea of Red not wanting to think of himself as old (and he wasn't elderly on the show; he was middle-aged).

New ship name, new OP! Red and Kitty sure are getting a treat this week. Love the comics you've added, they are so cool. Especially the one with the doctor and the header.

Yay! I'm glad. The previous one -- the wider fandom on tumblr isn't too thrilled with it, and Prissy (nannygirl) came up with Golden Couple, and I think it fits Red/Kitty better.

Y'know, we never got an episode where their anniversary is celebrated. That could've been funny and heart-warming.

I would've loved that! They deserved all the focus they got and more, but especially more positiv stuff. I feel like the writers played the 'Kitty is crazy due to menopause'-card a little too often.
