I heard that about the casting as well . DJR found that she had such great chemistry with Kurtwood that she just couldn't imagine anyone else as Red. I don't think I could either, the casting was done so well for that show... until the end at least. I was watching Drive In yesterday, and that's such a cute Red/Kitty episode. Them going out for dinner and Red getting so angry that Kitty had to make her own salad, the making-out in the car and telling off the cop and of course the fact that Eric has to be quiet going up the stairs because Kitty is 'very tired' . __________________

And the smirk after that! Musn't forget the smirk. Oh, I love Red.
They cast DJR before Kurtwood? Aww, so cute. I can't imagine anyone else as Red, either. And R/K is really one of the best couples around... I just watched the episode where Kitty thought she was pregnant and oh, he sold the Corvette! And he painted the crib again! He's such a good man at heart. I heart Red. Damnit, hats are cool __________________

Ahhh good ol' Drive-In.
I also love in Kitty and Eric's Night Out when Red gets all defensive to Eric ignoring Kitty's questions. (Similarly, when he got all "ARE YOU CORRECTING MY WIFE?!" in Prank Day, or "WHAT THE HELL'S WRONG WITH MY WIFE??" in The Good Son. I mean who gets that offended over the idea of someone NOT wanting to sleep with their wife? ) It's little things like that... "Oh what'd he do?!?!? I SWEAR I'LL KICK HIS ASS." __________________

Oh I love these two. They just define what being in love is all about.

They do
You always see Red's softer side when he's with Kitty - I laughed at his description of Kitty during menopause. And him giving her Sholtzie, apart from it being very awesome, it shows that he knew her very well. Because she needed to basically take care of something and all __________________

I love how Red gets sensitive with Kitty.
He knows not to mess with her because he might end up on the couch. (again) He'll stand up for her and "try" to satsfy her (menopausal) needs! Awww. __________________

Yeah, Red is great. I love how Kitty has him wrapped around her little finger - he actually went to the drugstore to get her a Vogue! (or whatever magazine it was).
And I don't know if this is the right thread for it, but why is Kitty's mother so mean to Kitty? __________________

Good question. There's usually some kind of deep psychology reason behind that kind of parent-child resentment, but they never went into it. I guess that would have required actual WORK on the writers' part.

I was asking myself that too. Why did she have to be mean to Kitty, but of course I guess it's the equivalent of Red and Eric.

Because she's a whore. That was my reasoning. But maybe it's like Brandon said, Kitty's mom was the Red to her Eric. But she seemed meaner than that. I guess we'll never know .

I wouldn't compare that insensitive c**t to Red; she was even mean and naggy to her husband. Just a plain ol' b!tch whereas Red was a hardass so his son wouldn't turn out a naive pansy.

I wouldn't agree actually. Red is hard, very hard on Eric, but deep down you know he loves Eric. He thanked Eric for staying back and helping the family. Red says a lot of evil things, but that's partly his nature and partly to prevent Eric from being a pansy - he never hits where it really hurts. I don't know how to explain this, do you know what I mean? Red doesn't reject Eric the way Kitty's mother does to Kitty on such a regular basis. It's not even about how Kitty's mother treats her husband, it's as if she wounds Kitty for the sake of it.

There's probably some sort of history there that we'll never ever know about. Or maybe the writers just made her a super bitch because they seem to think that having screwed up relationships where people tear each other apart emotionally is funny...

I don't know why anyone would wanna be cruel to Kitty - she's sooo nice and sooo cuuuute.
And it's a miracle she even turned out that way! __________________

So true. She's always so sweet and nice and puts everyone before herself. Being mean to Kitty is like kicking a puppy.
