Donna's Diary Entry: #7

One Happy Meal, please.

I will never understand my father. We were getting ready to go to Ye Old Country Buffet for the all-you-can-eat night (it’s his favorite) on Friday, and my dad suggested I wear pigtails. "Why would I do that?" I asked him. He said he just thought it looked cute because I’m still his little girl in his eyes. Then he said he had a present for me, and he gave me a new blouse that was pink and ruffley. I couldn’t believe he would give me something so obviously not me. But I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, so I wore it. When I came downstairs, my dad said I looked adorable. I said I looked twelve. "That’s the idea," and he grabbed the keys, and we were off.

In line at the restaurant, my dad told the cashier, "One adult and one child, please." The woman told him the child’s meal was only for twelve-years-old and under. "Right, she’s twelve -- well, maybe twelve-and-a-half but still twelve." I wanted to die, trying to pass me off as a twelve-year-old. How cheap is he?

When I refused to pretend to be in seventh grade, we paid full price and sat down. So I asked him, "How much was this blouse, Dad?"

"Eleven dollars."

"So you spent eleven dollars to save two dollars?"

He paused for a minute then said, "Well, it’s the principle. You don’t ever eat that much."

He was right; I don’t eat a lot, but since he eats enough for four adults, it only seemed fair that we pay for at least two. Then if all that wasn’t bad enough, he had the nerve to ask for a doggie bag.

I actually liked the dress. I remember reading that not many critics liked it.

I like the dress, though I am not sure if the top part is a jacket or part of the dress. If it's the latter, I like the dress a little less.
