I loved Eric and Donna's relationship in the early seasons, but they really lost their way for me personally.

Yeah, that would have been so much better

Imagine if, instead of trying to figure out his career during season 7, Eric and Donna decided to spend their post-engagement year going on wacky adventures together. Then, by the end of the season, Kitty, Red, and Bob tell them: "You two have to go to college," and that's exactly what they do.

Well new to this forum group. I frequent some others on here but didn't know about this one. So with what is going on in the word right now I decided to binge watch all 8 season on Netflix. Finished it in about 2 weeks or so. I have to say while it was on I did watch a eps here and there, but never an entire season or anything like that.

Glad I decided to watch it, the first 4 seasons were downright awesome! Seasons 5,6,7 were o k but felt it lost its feel a little. Season 8 was almost unwatchable! at least for me. I did watch it and if wasn't for the Eric and Donna reunion at the end it would have sucked big time. Randy must be the worst written character of all time!! Just felt uncomfortable watching him!! No chemistry between he and Donna whatsoever!

The best part of the show for me, were watching Eric and Donna figure out their feelings for each other, and even when not together knew they were meant to be and remained friends!

I still cant get how bad Randy was on the show LOL

Randy was awful, but he wasn't the worst thing about Season 8 imo

I agree. The writing on T7S is generally solid during the first four seasons.

A definite shift took place. Toward the end of season 5 particularly. The characters began to be manipulated to serve plot and punchline instead of letting the stories and humor arise organically from the characters.

I'd nix the almost.

That was the only good part about season 8, except for the part from the pilot they tagged the finale with -- and the fact season 8 was finally over.

The actor who played Randy was originally cast as Eric. But either through focus groups or test audiences or something, the powers that be realized the wider T7S audience wouldn't except anyone but Topher in the role and so created Randy as an Eric replacement. But the writers essentially wrote Randy with Eric-like dialogue anyway.

It would've been so ridiculous and disgusting! More like a twist for that hilarious scene where soap operas were made fun of.

Recasting a main character -- perhaps the main character -- who'd been played by the same actor for seven years? Not a winning proposition.
