I saw the discussion about her diverging characterization a few ago, but does anyone know why Marsha's sister, uh I mean Jan didn't come back to play Jackie's mom? Though I dug Brooke Shields, but just wondering.

My guess is ratings. TPTB believed that Brooke Shields would draw in viewers.

As I'm rewriting season 6 for the comics and going through the eps, that bolded bit is so obvious. At least they wrote her some funny material, too. Since Midge / Tanya Roberts was off the show, they probably wanted to bring back that element.

And in season 5, the show brought in Jessica Simpson for a few eps, who was there -- in part -- for the sexy factor.

Was all the female audience got the Joe Perry & Tom Jones cardboard standees as sexy guests ?

Nope. Max (her boss at WFPP), played by Howard Hesseman, is in two season 3 eps and one season 4 ep. Jerry Thunder (the DJ) is in one season 3 ep.

Maybe T7S's producers thought Ashton Kutcher was enough eye candy for its female audience.

Jessica Simpson, aside from her looks was likely also on the show to interest a certain age demographic of both genders as a then trendy new star. Much like Lindsay Lohan & Melissa Joan Hart. They did do 70's property remakes/film adaptations in Herbie & Dukes of Hazzard during T7S last season & Sabrina was a comic book & cartoon in the 70's, so there's that loose connection.

Since they had new/trendy faces & 70's music & t.v. alumni, Freddie Prinze jr seems like he would've fit since his dad was from "Chico & The Man". I can't think of guests who were the children of 70's celebrities, but had fame of their own while T7S was still going.

Interesting tidbit: Paris Hilton was supposedly first cast to play Annette (Jessica Simpson's part).
