welcome to the 15th c a t a l y s t s appreciation thread  CATALYST n catalyst [kӕtəlist] 2. someone or something that helps bring about a change.  Vanessa is a budding filmmaker. She is the polar opposite of her 1. Constance Billard classmates. Her parents are hippie artists who live in Vermont, while her sister Ruby is bassist for the band SugarDaddy. She has a shaky relationship with Dan Humphrey. After Ruby comes back from a world tour with her new fiance, Piotr, Vanessa moves in with the Humphreys, further complicating her relationship with Dan. Her life's ambition is to be a filmmaker. She is attending NYU at the end of the book series. She is portrayed by Jessica Szohr as a secondary character in the TV series.  Chuck is a rich, handsome, lust-driven, perverted antagonist whose list of the finer things in life is short: sex, alcohol, and rock and roll. He almost took advantage of a vulnerable Jenny Humphrey in a bathroom and on roof top and tried to sleep with an inebriated Serena van der Woodsen. Nobody is certain about his sexual orientation. Chuck has an obnoxious pet monkey named Sweetie, who can often be found perching on his shoulder and wearing coordinated outfits. He is largely despised by other characters, but because their families have been friends for generations and because of his wealth and good looks, they tolerate his egotistical antics and accept him for what he is: a rich party animal. After he was not accepted to any of the colleges he applied to, he ends up going to military college. He is portrayed by Ed Westwick as a primary character in the TV series.  {quotes on Chuck&Vanessa} "Back at the party, Blair, looking pretty in a dress Chuck bought for her (pictured), is furious when she sees Vanessa at the party. So she tells Chuck the bet is off. But Chuck's not really ready to call it off. See, he genuinely wants to buy the bar and he seems to actually like Vanessa." - San Diego Union Tribune Things start to get a little hairy when Chuck falls in love with the bar and its fabled roster of mad, bad and dangerous to know patrons and starts eying Vanessa with more affection than his usual callous disdain. We know Chuck desires deep down to shed his cad exterior, but it's difficult to break out of the box others put you in, especially when contending with a daddy complex. And Vanessa's newfound appreciation of his oft unseen humanity might just be a little too alluring for Chuck to resist. - The CW SOURCE " [... ] But the main event is Chuck and Vanessa. Chuck seems genuinely excited about refurbishing the Brooklyn bar, but Bart quashes the idea. Vanessa overhears and consoles Chuck. She tells him he deserves better. When V goes to leave the room, Chuck grabs her hand and asks her to stay. B sees this and is scared that her plan has backfired. Blair yoinks Vanessa’s purse and deletes the incriminating picture of her former lover (one would think this would be a simpler solution from the beginning). Blair then explains to Vanessa that it was all a bet. Chuck walks in and doesn’t deny the story, even though he looks rather unhappy that B revealed it." - Gossip Girl Insider "I thought we'd seen him as real as he was going to get when he was falling for Blair then fighting to get her back, but this week, Vanessa's Brooklyn project actually got to Chuck's heart as he saw more to himself than the rich jerk, and more to Vanessa than a bet with Blair that would get him well, Blair." - sidereel.com   1.Because Vanessa brought Chuck to real life. 2.Because learning about each other's worlds could make both of them grow. 3.Because it would be extremely interesting watching Chuck trying to survive in a world where "I'm Chuck Bass" doesn't mean that much. 4.Because there actually is tension between them. 5.Because he wanted to tell her the truth about Blair’s seduction plan. 6.Because the criminal falling in love with his victim is always a romantic storyline 7.Because it would be a great twist in the story 8.Because Ed and Jess are best friends and would be absolutely into it 9.Because what started out as a con became something real 10.Because he held her hand and asked her not to go
