Kelly was too busy trying to catch Val in compromising positions and getting in love triangles with her, Dylan, Brandon and Colin to bother trying to psychoanalyze her. But yes I agree, that was ignorant on Kelly's part. It's like she didn't want to look into the reasons for Val's flaws because she was content in hating her.
