They could've had him try it but since they weren't going to write him off the show, to me it's not a good image to show since it might give the wrong impression to people that they can try heroin and still be ok. No offense.

I don't know. I'm not sure if Dylan tried cocaine or heroin in S5 and then in s9. I think it was cocaine.

Yes I think I remember Steve wanting to take steroids but I think is a great character. Yes he is a party animal but I loved the way he matured over the years
