Tftn, love the title.
Interesting discussion, guys. I might watch that episode tonight to join you :) |
I enjoyed that Kelly/Andrea scene in s2. I like that it shows that Kelly still thinks about what happened at the Spring Dance. But I didn't like that she was only feeling that way in that one scene. It was never addressed again until Mid s4 when BK spent the weekend together.

I don't have time to rewatch everything, but it might be that Brandon was not a total ass, and yes, it was quite understandable he was irritated by Andrea in that episode  But, it was still pretty ugly and stupid he told her she had no business in sexual education because she was a virgin. Also, it's not like he was much more experienced. At that point he had sex only once, like, a year and a half before that.

Kelly was clearly upset that Brandon rejected her. I think he should have took things slowly from the Spring Dance and just see how it goes instead of coming out with that sister comment - I thought that was one of Brandon's dumb moments on the show. His dumbest move was Emma
Esma, you do crack me up when it comes to Brandon  |
Definitely Emma. I agree.
|
I tend to see the Emma thing as a sabotage because it made no sense
|
It was definitely the biggest letdown of s8 for me.

Brandon telling Kelly at the Spring Dance that she's "Like another sister" looked forced to me  like he was desperate to let her down in some way without mentioning the fact that Steve still liked her and Brandon didn't want Kelly thinking that Steve had talked him out of being with her.
At least, that's how I spin it in my head. ;) It fits better with the fact that Brandon says to her a few episodes prior "you know, Steve wouldn't like this..." |
There was a sweet Andrea - Brandon - Kelly (sort of) moment in S2, Party Fish, after Andrea rejected Brandon. She was reluctant about seeing him, and said they were only friends. And Kelly said, "You cannot be just friends with the guy. Not this cute."

^ Kelly showing residual butterflies for him :melt:

I definitely think Brandon's decision to reject Kelly at the Spring Dance was primarily to do with Steve  Using the "sister" comment was an easy thing for him to do - holding her friendship with Brenda responsible for his supposed discomfort with the idea of them getting together means that Kelly cannot really argue back. He said the one thing that he knew would avoid her asking more questions. What I do appreciate is how the Season 4 writers remember it in 'CHANGE PARTNERS' and they have Kelly point out how much he hurt her feelings with that comment :broken_heart: |
I'm glad Brandon saw Kelly in a different way in S4 as oppose to S1. I do think Brandon really liked Kelly from the beginning but he just kept his feelings to one side
|
He did it for Steve, mostly  I have little doubt about that. From the moment that Brandon shows interest in Kelly in the Pilot episode, Steve gets defensive and it makes Brandon realize that Steve's still hung up on her.
He stayed away for Steve's sake, just like he was willing to stay away from Kelly in Season 4 for Dylan's sake. |
I think that when Kelly showed up in Washington for him and told him that she and Dylan broke up, he gave in. He really wanted to.
