They did not until mid-S4, but yes, all the contrivance you mentioned.

I was pretty shocked David dared to trash her. Not just because of his own recent displays of great judgement. Like dude, you barely have a place in the group, and that's because Brenda was very welcoming and receptive of you, among other factors. Much more welcoming than his step-sister.

I haven't seen all the episodes yet of bh90210, but I have read many reviews and it should be noted that a lot of reviewers have said one of their favorite things about this new show is that we've gotten to see the strong David and Shannen chemistry that we were deprived of the first time around.

I think she capitalizes on a relationship with him a lot.

I like how Shannen is sort of his friend and a spiritual guru on the reboot. Same for Jennie's daughter

Tori and Jennie both appear to yield a lot of power over the character arcs and SLs.

As someone who wasn't pro-David/Donna in the second half of the original, I never cared for the whole fantasy wedding stuff that happened with them and how the show tried to make it look like he and Val never really meant much to each other.

I'm definitely glad that they picked Brian to be her closest friend out of the guys

Jason would have been too obvious, and Ian... Well, nothing against him at all but I recently re-watched the season 4 story arc with Laura and I cannot get over how badly Steve treated Brenda
