I hated how they aborted the wedding. The reasons were so out of the blue I felt.

^^ The aborted wedding is perhaps the worst episode of any television show to ever be aired.

It's definitely one of the worst episodes I've seen out of any show.

It's the first time -- and hopefully the last -- that I've ever seen a 4-year couple suddenly just decide "yeah, let's not get married"

I mean, the writers treated it as if we wouldn't care. As if we hadn't grown up caring about his relationship.

I wonder if this was a way for Spelling to approve BK even discussing having a wedding only to stop it just make Jason sorry about leaving.

^ I definitely think that storyline was done with some hostility towards Jason.

It's the only way to explain the complete retcon of their S7 reunion.

Too bad, it didn't change Jason's mind. But I think he was hoping that the show would be cancelled after he left and there was no 9th season.

It must have been really awkward for him and Jennie to shoot those wedding scenes. Having to stay professional when your characters' relationship is being retconned.

Especially when it's followed by ~break-up~ sex ()

And even worse - Kelly reads into it that they're back together but Brandon pulls away.

I mean... Did the writers have fun with this constant tease? They're certainly not over in S9. It's more will they/won't they stuff that we'd already gone through ages ago.

Maybe the s9 teases were their ways to soften the blow from the wedding. It didn't work because Jason left anyway.

Yeah, part of me thinks it was a response to the backlash from fans or something before they came back for S9.

As you know, I did a recent re-watch of S8 and it did draw my attention in that episode that they technically didn't break up.

There was talk of her moving out but it was more to do with the wedding being cancelled than their actual relationship.

So, I think the writers kept them going because they knew it would look ignorant to completely cut them out of each other's lives.

I still wish they had had more of a non-ending. Brandon leaves for his job and there's a "maybe someday" hanging between him and Kelly. My wish

You're right. It wasn't officially stated that they were broken up in s8. They were still holding each other in 9x01 making plans to go on their job honeymoon.

I can think of far worse jump-the-shark moments on other shows, and even on this show.

I was much more offended by Brandon cheating in S8, Kelly cheating at the end of S5, and Kelly referring to the cult as "home." Those are scenes that I never care to watch again.

While I wouldn't call them jump-the-shark moments, I wish that the writers had never raped or shot Kelly either.

For those who watched the spin-off -- and I don't blame you if you didn't -- I can make a reference to the popular Annie/Liam pairing.

Brandon and Kelly's non-wedding was nothing compared to Lannie's S4 break-up, which was written by a couple of newly appointed idiots who couldn't make it the least bit believable. Fortunately, they came to their senses in time.

The aborted wedding was tough to watch, but I don't dislike it nearly as much as others seem to. Again, we all know that it only happened because Jason was leaving, so I can't take it too seriously.
