welcome to the bandits: dylan & brenda appreciation thread {98th}  {credit to: Marki} Once upon a time, in a town called Beverly Hills, the original bad boy and bad girl got together and created the first supercouple of 90210. They are considered "the most passive-aggressive, co-dependent, enabling" relationship of the 90’s decade. They're also considered to define the show, but if there's one thing that's definite about them, it's that they were intensely in love and always there for each other.  Very good points.Also, I think what's indicative of the night he 'chose' Kelly in S3 is the fact that Brenda was not there. That is an important point that can be overlooked, I think. Kelly brings it to Dylan's attention face to face in the pool scene with the 'Did you choose me because Brenda wasn't here tonight' spiel. Dylan even answers with a 'maybe', he never denies it and reinforces that his decision is solely based on her and her alone. In essence, I think Brenda's absence really made it easier for Dylan not to really have to choose at all, if that makes sense. In his mind, Brenda not being there meant he didn't have to reject her face to face in order to choose Kelly over her. He took the easy road out - he was feeling on the outs with Brenda's father (not ever good enough), trying to re-establish a relationship with his own father while Jim didn't want Brenda and Brandon around Jack McKay, he and Brenda had just experienced another rough patch in their own relationship ... with Kelly there were no boundaries nor rules. It wasn't even intense, I think he thought it was freedom ... I mean, the one thing that always struck me on how physical the DK relationship really was, instead of them really bonding on an emotional level, is when he rejects her idea to take things slow with his line about how they knew each other their whole lives and they can't take it any slower than that. With Brenda, he makes it very clear to her many times through his actions and through his words that he was never there for that first and foremost. He waited for her. Quote:

After what I described a couple paragraphs above, S9 just drove that point home even further for me that Kelly wasn't someone he intended to ever have a functional relationship with. BD had their moments but I never once doubted how Dylan and Brenda really felt for each other in the first two seasons. There was always genuine love present even amongst their mishaps/errors. I could never feel or sense that with DK.__________________

After a while, Kelly was looking for something more in between. She wanted the WHOLE relationship, not just the sex. Otherwise, she wouldn't have ran off to Brandon. Let the record show that Kelly ran away from Dylan to be with Brandon but NEVER the other way around. From what I can see, Dylan never dated anyone quite like Brenda before. Brenda had limits and conditions to their relationship. She had to be convinced by Dylan that he really loved her for her. In S1, I truly saw that. That's why in a way, I think The Spring Dance was Brenda's 1st time BUT it was also Dylan's 1st time, where the sex meant something. It was something he earned. Therefore, the love was real and not just some recreational sport, where the relationship falls apart in the off season. Quote:
I really don't know why B/D broke up. I doubt that Dylan left Brenda for Kelly. He only pursued Kelly because he decided to come back to L.A. Also, I think that Dylan saw a lot of Brenda in Toni. Just like Brenda, Dylan had issues with Toni's father. In a way, I can't help but picture B/D when Dylan and Toni were together. I am loving everyone's comments. I have always thought that Dylan chose Kelly because it was the easiest and safest route and he always went to her after Brenda broke his heart. Brenda went to Paris, she broke up with him for Rick, she didn't go to the party, she went away to school, she didn't come back from London, they broke up in London, etc. I think Kelly and Dylan brought out the worst in each other.
THey completely changed the timeline too. They mentioned that Dylan and Brenda were still together during the failed wedding but did they mention it in season 9? I always thought Brandon mentioned something in the premiere to Kelly like she should still go to the honeymoon and meet up with them, anyone remember that? Also, does anyone remember dylan calling her selfish to kelly in season 9? I took it to mean she ended things with him. He always seemed to want to hurt her when she ends things. Like going with Kelly or saying she was just another person he knew in high school because he was mad she didn't come back from London. Also, does he mention erica or iris at all the last two seasons? Didn't erica go off to live with him and brenda? __________________
