Both, I believe...

We should get 24 episodes. There were rumors about 27 but they've been shot down. So, it's at *least* 24 at this point... Which is only 1 episode more than s1, but still. It's gonna feel great after such a short s2!

Emily VanCamp has a message for the fans of ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” (tonight at 10:02 on WCVB, Ch. 5).

“Give it a chance,” VanCamp said. She was talking, of course, about the recent revelation that her onscreen alter ego, Rebecca, is not a member of the Walker clan. This plot twist allows for Rebecca to explore a romance with her no-longer-brother Justin (Dave Annable).

“I don’t think it is as bad as everyone is making it out to be,” she said. “These two characters didn’t grow up together. They weren’t playing in the sandbox together. They didn’t go on family vacations. Now that she’s not related to him by blood, it kind of makes sense.”

But this was not how her story line was originally supposed to go. VanCamp had played Amy Abbott in “Everwood,” the previous series of “Brothers & Sisters” executive producer Greg Berlanti, who cast VanCamp in the part of Rebecca without an audition or a screen test.

“I was back home in Canada when I got the call,” she said. “A week later, I flew back to L.A., met the cast and off we went. Greg Berlanti has been such an incredible asset to my career. He’s so incredibly talented and wonderful.”

Everyone soon began to realize that sparks were flying between VanCamp and Annable onscreen.

“We had no choice but to touch on the fact that Rebecca and Justin had some sort of chemistry. It was an ongoing joke for a while that these two characters were more compatible as young lovers than as siblings. I’m really glad they are handling it in a nonincestuous way. That’s when ‘Brothers & Sisters’ moves to HBO,” she said and then laughed.

After she recovered from the initial shock of the direction her character would be going in, she embraced the story line.

“It’s a lot of opportunity for me as an actress. I’m really happy with it. It’s creating a bit of controversy and getting people talking.”

The cast is working through June and has already filmed the fall season premiere. The fallout from the revelation that Rebecca is not a member of the Walker clan will continue into next season.

“She’s been such a great character for me to play,” said VanCamp. “I’ve always played the girl-next-door type of character. Rebecca has so much going on. For a while, I tried to justify all of these things that she does. Ultimately, I realized it is not about justifying her behavior, it’s about understanding it.”

In tonight’s second-season finale, Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and Scotty (Luke MacFarlane) have a commitment ceremony, and the family learns another secret the deceased William Walker (Tom Skerritt) kept from them.

“The finale is going to be very eventful. I can’t even tell you how excited I am to see it. There’s some resolution between Justin and Rebecca,” said VanCamp. “And there’s definitely a bit of a cliffhanger that will eat away at people over the summer.”

"ABC’s 8-11 p.m. combination of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 11.93 million; A18-49: #2, 4.0/11), Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #1, 15.24 million; A18-49: #1, 5.5/14) and the season-finale of Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #1, 11.02 million; A18-49: #1, 4.0/10) came in at typical potent levels. What a pity the great Brothers & Sisters is over already."

Also, there have been rumors about B&S switching time slots wth Dirty, Sexy Money but they were proven false. So, B&S is definitely staying on Sunday nights!
