Okay, so I got a glimpse of the first 10 minutes of the premiere that ABC put on their website, so this is going into SPOILER territory.....anyone who doesn't wanna know should not read on.....
* * * * * * * * * * * * * Apparently, Robert is not dead from the accident, but instead he has been in a coma for the last year, which Nora says that the doctors told them he could snap out of it anytime, but Justin tells her that it really is that Robert is in a permanent vegetative state. A flashback from four weeks after the accident, Justin blames himself for leaving Robert and he has an argument with Nora, and ends up leaving to join the Army again. We begin with his homecoming from war. Justin asks about Robert and Kitty, and thinks that maybe it's time for Kitty to let Robert go, but Nora says it isn't their place to tell her, Justin replies "then who's is it?" We also see Kitty talking to a comatose Robert (we never actually see the face), she is clipping his nails and getting him ready because she knows Justin would want to see him first thing he comes home. But as we listen to Kitty's voice-over in the beginning of the episode where it is two weeks after the events of the first episode, she said she had to make a choice that no one should make, and my guess is that Kitty had to take Robert off life support. __________________

Brothers & Sisters is back, and this episode was such a strong season premiere. Heartbreaking, but in true Walker fashion the family manages to come back with the help of one of their own. An unlikely source at that. Fitting because everyone has to grow up sometime! I truly loved this season premiere. If you missed the episode, there is a recap and poll here.

For about the first half of this episode, I was left in a weird daze and a fog. I felt like I was watching the ghost of a show I thought I knew and loved very much. Then I realized the true magnitude of last season's accident and how it is only natural and fitting that I should feel that way. By the end of the premiere I was left hopeful and with that very familiar Walker warm and fuzzy feeling - and then very saddened at the thought of watching the impending series finale in May. I wish it weren't true!

A great start to, what I hope will be, another great season
And I'm really starting to think that this one year jump was a good idea. And I can't believe how big Evan is! |

At first I thought it was too abrupt to switch during the commercial between Kitty at the hospital saying goodbye to Robert and then it was after the memorial service, but then I saw Kitty at the site of the accident laying down the flowers and the Walkers' toast to Robert, and I thought, this IS the real memorial tribute to Robert, this was perfect in true Walker fashion. Rather than showing another funeral of sad faces and speeches, it was about celebrating Robert's life and spirit, about moving on and going forward, something that Robert did a lot in life, and it was truly fitting.
And besides, if they had shown a funeral service or a goodbye montage, I would have been crying my eyes out for hours, and I think I did enough of that to last a lifetime during last season finale when the light faded from Robert's beautiful blue eyes. I guess a part of me had been hoping that they would keep Robert on, but I think this is better, to let Robert go. Everything about Robert McCallister was moving along, keeping it going, look to the future, Robert wouldn't want to be kept in a vegetative state on life support. It was the right decision to let go, Robert would never want Kitty to stay still, he would want her to go on, be happy, and have the life for her and Evan that she always dream of and wants. I think this one year jump is a very good idea in the end, they were able to use the tragedy to bring back the Walkers in their true form and give it another fresh start. Life goes on, the world keeps spinning. So I guess, this is the final goodbye to the beloved Robert Alexander McCallister. Senator, Father, Husband, Son, Brother, and Best Friend. We will miss you Robert! --------------- Kitty and the Walkers have said their goodbyes, now it's time I did too. Here's my video tribute to our beloved Senator Robert McCallister! Guess I don't agree with the majority. I didn't love this episode, at all. I was beyond annoyed that they chose to put Robert in a coma, and drag out this storyline more that it needed to. His death was so epic and selfless, to let Justin help Holly even though he was worse off. But now it's Kitty blaming Justin for not helping Robert, and causing a tension. Like, gimme a break. Scotty/Kevin's upcoming storyline, man I hate to say this, I think I'm going to look forward to the least. Sigh. Nora working at a flower shop sounds too familiar to Six Feet Under to me, so that also annoyed me. I get that Rebecca left, I would have too, when Justin sunk into that depression. And oh, what a shock, history repeats itself, Justin goes off to war again, due in response to his mother. I mean, really? Do they need to keep repeating the same mistakes? And Sarah's attitude was hard to swallow. I hated how she honestly said, "what's left for me here?" - I wanted to smack her, through the television. I would have enjoyed Luc's billboard more, but it's an old modeling picture from Gilles modeling days. Holly having memory loss, that was the part of the episode that actually cracked me up. Two steps forward, two steps back... they honestly don't know what to do with her anymore, do they? The camera work with Kitty at the hospital, stroking Robert in the hospital bed, was embarrassing.
I'd say I loved the flashback with Justin/Nora, probably the best scene of the episode, next to Sarah and Kevin trying to find wine. How ironic. Otherwise, I was left disappointed and filled with less hope, which hopefully they can prove me wrong. Sorry I came only reporting negative, I honestly wish that wouldn't have been the case. And the coma doesn't take away from the fact that his death was still epic and selfless, he still died telling Justin to save Holly, so coma or not, he was still the hero. And I don't see why Kitty wouldn't have a part of herself blaming Justin. I'm sorry you find it annoying, but this is how people react in real life, people blame each other whether it's really right or not. Kitty knows that Justin isn't at fault, but a part of her can't help it. THAT is real as it gets. Quote:

I don't see what is embarrassing about stroking a loved one and showing affection, nor do I see how the camera work is embarrassing considering that they couldn't get Rob Lowe to film the premiere. They had to work with what they got. __________________
