It wasn't what I expected either! I had heard that it was dark and sinister but after watching for an hour, there still isn't anything dark or ominous going on. After one of the Swedish guys gets back bitten by the shark the film takes a sharp to turn to WTF-ville. All the characters take on new and darker personas that seemd to have been there all along, but were only just now being forced to the front.

I would've preferred to see the ending that was in the book, but I was happy with the tone the movie ended on.

All in all, this film was not too bad. Not one of Leo's top films, IMO, but interesting enough. I thought Tilda Swinton and Guillaume Canet were great supporting cast members. Leo's amazing performance, as usual, made it worth watching in its entirety.
This is one of my favorite films, but I also get why it's not considered Leo's best (especially with all the other superb work he's created). Tilda and Guillaume were great and I totallly agree about Leo's performance. Leo has this uncanny ability to take characters that I can find annoying, or sometimes self-centered, and make them into someone I can't help but like. I respect the guy for what he can do. I mean he really can be anybody!

This movie isnt what I expected either It was a very diff type of movie & it def. turned into WTF-ville

Whats the ending in the book? I didnt know there was a book

He was great w/ Tilda and Guillaume And those sex scenes

I also love the hair cut he had in the movie & him being shirtless alot didnt hurt either

And I totally agree about how Leo can play an annoying character yet u still find to like him

Even when he tells Guillaume that he cheated & really didnt have an explanation why he didnt tell her & he looks like such an ass I still liked him

Also i love when Richard would get mad & annoyed...like when they played a trick on him when swimming to the beach

Spoiler:
The Tribe seperates into 2 groups. Richard's friends and a few sane people, and others who are just off the boat. The remaining people on the island try to kill Richard after Sal revelas he told someone about the map. Pretty descriptive and grotesque picture, but entertaining nonetheless. They basically stab him repeatedly with spears and he barely lives. Eventually he escapes with a few people from the island and lives to tell the tale. I would've liked to see everyone on the island have stabbed him though, how sick am I? I just think it would've held more true to the story about how dark human nature really can be in this place so many would consider a "utopian society" and what people are willing to do to keep it safe.

The book is written by Alex Garland, in case you want to give it a read. I heard that it was very good and even better than the movie.

If I'm in a book store and they still have the movie tie-in version with Leo on the cover I'll definitely get it

The Beach is one of my favourite books of all time, and I loved the movie too even though I disliked a lot of the changes they made. The book's ending is far, far superior though, I remember being very unhappy with the movie's ending the first time around but now I'm used to it so I'm over it.

It actually surprises me that so many critics panned the movie, it's one of my favourite films! I love the location, the visuals, the music, the story, the mood it evokes, how it goes from being a complete paradise into a pile of s-h-i.... And Leo is AMAZING in the film!! He's never looked finer.

I might be biased when it comes to Leo b/c I think hes amazing in everything

But I like how he plays Richard with his flaws yet u still root for him u know?
