| Elite Fan | Okay, this film wasn't really what I expected.  It was much more sinister than I was ready for.That Scottish guy and the map, very strange and eerie, especially since he seemed so out of it when talking with Richard...yet I thought he was trying to communicate something important. The shark theme throughout the film was freaky! First, the trick that Etienne and Francoise played on Richard while swimming to the island; then Richard killing that one shark with a knife; and the shark attach victims, how awful. Each incident with escalating terror! Richard's deal with Sal was surprising, plus it turns out that Francoise found out about them anyway. Just like Etienne found out about her and Richard. Secrets weren't hidden for long, just like the island's location wasn't kept hidden. The video game segment was too funny!  Much-needed comic relief. Leo's facial expressions were priceless. He changed so much during his time alone in the woods. We see what might happen if someone were to isolate themselves from others, just like the community itself was basically isolated from the rest of civilization.Those newcomers getting gunned down was awful, and Richard didn't get the map from them anyway, probably since he was running for his life. Sal's single bullet and her dilemma to either get rid of Richard or leave the island was so intense - I was ready for her to pull the trigger, that's how dedicated she was to the community, wanting to preserve their way of life. I was glad to see that no more people had to die, and that Richard went back to his life, wherever that was and whatever he was doing before going on that trip. It was nice that Francoise sent him that photo of everyone looking so happy, before things turned ugly. You could tell from his face, though, that the not-so-good memories from his time away from home were still forefront in his mind. Oh, I should mention about all the eye candy. Richard and Etienne during their fight scene, after the Richard/Francoise affair gets found out...lookin' good, fellas.  All in all, this film was not too bad. Not one of Leo's top films, IMO, but interesting enough. I thought Tilda Swinton and Guillaume Canet were great supporting cast members. | Ultimate Fan | Szilvia, I love everything you said about it! It definitely wasn't what I was expecting either. I forget why they all had to stay or all had to leave. If she let people leave and gave them that freedom I'm sure some would come back thus preserving her way of life. I mean why did they come in the first place, you know? Others out there I'm sure have that unction. | Elite Fan  | U know my Sweet 16th birthday was the day when the Beach came out in theaters and like 15 of my friends all went to see it for my birthday together Good times! I still have the pic of all of us outside the movie theatre He looked so good in this movie. I havent seen it in a long time. I have it on VHS I do have the soundtrack too which is good!__________________ I think Leonardo DiCaprio's done a great job. | I really love this movie. it's one of my fave leo ones. I just love the way it shows the society life and how being isolated can effect him. I've been thinking about watching this again lately. I really should. and I loved your review of it  __________________ I'm only half of what you see. | |||
