Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who plays King Henry VIII on "The Tudors," was crowned by his own people in Dublin.

The Irish actor and the Showtime series received a record seven honors from the Irish Film and Television Awards on Sunday, Feb. 17, report news sources.

Besides Rhys Meyers and the show itself, "Tudors" also won for co-stars Maria Doyle Kennedy and Nick Dunning, the costuming, production design and hair and makeup.

Other big winners were Daniel Day-Lewis nabbing the international actor award for "There Will Be Blood," Saorise Ronan for best supporting actress and rising star in "Atonement" and as previously announced, Mel Gibson for contribution to world cinema.

Rhys Meyers, 31, also has a busy career on the big screen. His credits include "Bend It Like Beckham," "Alexander," "Match Point," "Mission: Impossible 3" and "August Rush." On TV, he's played a king of another sort by starring in the miniseries "Elvis," a role for which he earned a Golden Globe.

The actor will next work as an international goodwill ambassador with the Hope Foundation, for which he will highlight the plight of street children in India by doing a documentary in Calucutta with the local children.

I can't believe he's 31 already! That's awesome about him winning for The Tudors. That show has given him a lot of good things.

He must've done quite a good job on it.

The Tudors has been great for him. He is fantastic as Henry! I can't wait for Season 2.

Following up on an official casting notice that asked for "unusual facial features and body shapes, even physical abnormalities. ...
