Rumor has it that John has filmed a commercial in Austria some time ago... I'll try to look for the ad.

Monkeyslum interviewed John during the filming of Casino Royale.

Quote:
20-year-old John ‘Kerbie’ Kerr saw freerunning on TV when he was 15 and got hooked. Since then he’s travelled the world, appeared in films and on TV and spent three months in the Bahamas filming the opening freerunning stunt sequence in Bond flick, Casino Royale. We caught up with him in Argentina…

What are you doing in Argentina?

Filming a commercial for Schwarzkopf hair gel. The storyline involves a geek played by myself turning into a Freerunner by stealing another Freerunner’s skills. It’s amazing.

How and when did you get into freerunning?

I first saw freerunning on television about four and a half years ago. The image of people moving and climbing through the city was very similar to the games that me and my friends were playing at the time. It grew from there.

What are the main differences between Parkour and Freerunning?

Parkour is about efficient movement. It is very strict and disciplined. Practitioners train for years to perfect their body so that their body is in peak condition for any situation where you need to move to somewhere very quickly and effectively. Freerunning focuses on the beauty of human movement. I see it as an urban ballet and gymnastics collaboration. It is a celebration of our bodies and the many shapes we can make with it

The movements had to look spectacular, but not pointless. If you're being chased by a secret agent with a gun, it’s going to be hard to perform spectacular movements when all you really want to do is get away from him. We had to keep coming up with ideas that looked cool, but were also efficient and realistic. I would often come up with crazy ideas and Gary Powell (the stunt co-ordinator) would often have to remind me that it couldn’t look too spectacular and I had to focus on escape.

What other films have you been in?

I was in Breaking and Entering, as stunt double for the young thief. Blood and Chocolate as a Werewolf. I did a couple of days work as a zombie on 28 Weeks Later. Also, in Drona, a Bollywood super hero film, I played the supervillian’s henchman in a freerunning style chase scene.

What’s the strangest and best thing that you’ve done?

I had an offer by a film producer to write a synopsis for a film about my life, growing up on an estate and seeing my friends being defeated by obstacles such as crime, drugs and teen pregnancy - contrasted with my successes at a young age. I turned it down because I feel that a 20-year-old writing a movie about their life is too self proclaiming. That and because my story is only just starting, I can’t even see the end from here yet.

There’s a full-time freerunning academy being set up, how’s that going?

We've been toying with the structure of the academy for a while and we're looking to make a few big changes during this year. The old academies focussed on conditioning and discipline. That’s not freerunning to me, I do it for fun and try not to take it too seriously. I'm quite shy when it comes to teaching and don’t feel that me being the youngest person in the room could teach a class of adults. I'm currently campaigning in my area to get access to a gymnasium to teach freerunnung to some youths. I'd rather focus on the fun aspects and teaching teens how to respect their bodies and environments at the same time.

What’s the best single attribute to have to be good at freerunning?

An open mind. You need to have the confidence to just attempt to move. A good sense of balance always helps, paired with good control of your body. There is a lot going on when you practise freerunning. Every muscle is used. If you like to push yourself and overcome obstacles then freerunning is for you.

What’s next?

You know what? I actually don't know. Wicked whispers say that we'll be hitting Beijing, Monte Carlo, Cannes and then the U.S. in the summer.

Not a lot of new news about John, but I found two of his old-fashioned (the time when he was 19) free running showreels.

Kerbie first sampler

Kerbstar2K3

Both videos are really wacky and funny.

John is finally doing something new! I found new pictures. I'm not sure whether they're from a new photoshoot or a new movie project, but he sure does look good in them!

There is also a picture of him wearing some kind of a 'zombie make-up', so I'll be guessing it's a horror movie project he's currently involved with. It was said it was sort of a test photo for something they were about to film.

And some other new pics I found too.

Not much new news, but I am trying to get my hands on some Jump Britain and Blood and Chocolate DVDs, so I can cap them and post some sexy screencaps.

In the meanwhile, I found an old photo of him (really, it's OLD, he's like 19 in that picture...) and a small bio-thingy that was posted of him on one parkour/free running team site.

Quote:
Full name: John "Kerbie" Kerr

Age: 19

Location: Surrey

Interests/bio:
Right now, free running is my life. I train every oppertunity that I get. I'm also expanding my skills by learning tricking and breakdance.
I started parkour back in 2001 as a progression from games that me and my friends would play when we were growing up. After seeing a 5 minute mini feature on the yamakasi, i was hooked.

Skills/strengths: Parkour, FreeRunning, Action Stunts and Tricking.
