Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) has it all -- looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity -- and a wicked cruel streak.
Prone to mocking and humiliating "aggressively unattractive" classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra,
inviting her to the school's extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in
a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates
by casting a spell that physically transforms
him into everything he despises. Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns
that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is -- a task he considers impossible.

Repulsed by his appearance, Kyles callous father banishes him to Brooklyn with a sympathetic housekeeper (Lisa Gay Hamilton)
and blind tutor (Neil Patrick Harris). As Kyle ponders how to overcome the curse and get his old life back, he chances upon
a drug addict in the act of killing a threatening dealer. Seizing the opportunity, Kyle promises the addict freedom and safety
for his daughter Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens) if she will consent to live in Kyle's Brooklyn home. Thus begins Kyle's journey
to discover true love in this hyper-modern retelling of the classic 'Beauty and the Beast' story.

Lindy Taylor always preferred to go 'under the radar' - she would rather do her own thing and not stand out
around her peers in school. Her dad being a drug addict, she was always occupied with ensuring his well-being,
and in turn never did as much for herself as she should have been able to, as much as she wanted. When Kyle
("Hunter") enters her life, all of that changes and she finds herself again as she grows closer to him and begins
to develop feelings for him. She had seen worse than his beastly state, to her he was not beastly at all; she saw
beyond and into his heart and soul, seeing the good and the man who wanted nothing more than to be able to
love her and have her love him in return. Her deep, profound love for him broke the spell and Lindy would be
'under the radar' no more.

Kyle Kingson had it all - looks, popularity, girls, wealth, everything a guy in high school could dream of. Except
Kyle wasn't just any guy in high school; he was completely full of himself, conceited, arrogant and shallow nearly
beyond comprehension. Kyle's life gets turned upside down when a witch named Kendra, a classmate not fit to his
standards, places a curse on him and he becomes "as unaggressively unattractive outside" as he is inside. Kyle has
one year to find someone to love him and break the spell, or remain in his beastly state forever. When he begins to
draw closer to fellow schoolmate Lindy Taylor, he becomes less aware of his hideous physical appearance and realizes
that looks are not everything, that what matters is seeing beyond and deeper into the very soul of another human being.
Through this and through falling for Lindy, he learns what it truly means to love someone and to have someone love you in return.

It's such an emotional moment. I love how he can be completely at ease saying it there in the hall with everyone looking on - he knows she would never turn him away; her love runs deep.
