5YRS on FanForum Preparation Thread

As you may (or may not) know, the Vanessa Anne Hudgens board
turns FIVE at the beginning of March. Five years is a pretty big feat,
so naturally Glads and I thought it would be fitting to celebrate
the occasion accordingly.

Planning for something that's in March may seem like we're being
over prepared, but time will pass quickly and before you know it,
March will be here and we won't be prepared. Better to be over-prepared
than not prepared at all isn't it?

The only thing is we're not exactly sure on how we'd like to do that.

This is where you guys, our lovely, dedicated posters come in.

How do YOU guys want to celebrate our five years on FanForum?

At this point we're just looking for ideas on what to put in our celebration thread
and possibly volunteers to do certain things that need to be done,
if anyone is willing to volunteer early on.

So let's get those creative juices flowing and see what we can come up with
in order to celebrate five years of being one of the most successful boards on FanForum!

maybe we can do a timeline of the last 5 years... like the highlights of V's career (movies/major events & awards shows she went to) and of the boards biggest milestones... (100k posts/1 million posts/etc)

Zac's board did it for their 5 year and it turned out really good - ★ Zac Efron - 5 Years at Fan Forum ★ - I'm not saying to copy their OP, just that we could take the idea of a timeline and spin it and put our own twist and flare to it (that is of course you girls want to even go with the idea of a timeline )

I think some kind of timeline(s) thing would be nice; it'd keep things more organized.

One bit could be "factual" things (which is often kind of the first thing you see, so people can 'visualize' how far the board has come):
- when the campaign thread was started
- the date the board opened
- who the original moderators were (and one still is ), and when yours truly got appointed (we don't have to do this; it's just something I've seen at other boards)
- when we reached 10K, 100K, 500K, 1 Million. (I think it'd be neat to include 10K, just because it's usually always exciting to have that first posting milestone celebration, and you get to see how fast it was and how much time passed since then between the other 100K and so on milestones).

I do like the year-by-year breakdown of how they did Zac's, but I've been thinking of perhaps doing something of a "top five" with a lot of different things throughout the past five years, without neccessarily stamping a year number on it.

For example:

Five Years of Interviews:
- and then have some snippets (writeups/quotes), anis, art to accompany our five top interviews in the past five years. And they can be any interview, there doesn't have to be one from literally every year, juts as long as we have five.. (though of course we wouldn't want all of them from just one year).

This could be the main "theme" so to speak, "Five Years Of..."

- interviews
- photoshoots (here we could just have arts/anis - unless there's a really nice, memorable quote from a photographer she's worked with that we could throw in [like the one about how you'd "have to be a fool to mess this one up"])
- candids
- movie premieres and/or red carpets
- friendships (this one could be very hard though; there's so much!)
- movies
- celebrating Vanessa (this could be more about us, our experiences, meeting Vanessa/her family, great fan tweets about her, etc).

It might seem like it'd be a lot, but if we kept it simple I think it'd turn out quite well. It'd be a nice variation of quotes/writeups and arts/anis.

These are just some ideas I've had, so I figured I'd share and see what you guys think. And of course I want to hear your ideas too!

That is a really good idea!

but omg it is going to be hard picking our top five things for each category! Each promo for each of her movies had numerous great interviews alone, and don't even get me started on paparazzi pics. I have about a dozen from this year alone I loved and you could even say this was her "bad fashion/crazy hair year" and red carpet pics just forget about it, toooooo many.

It's a great idea, but it's safe to say I won't be helping out with this section of the thread. Vanessa makes it too hard

I really love how the Zac board did their timeline. It just looks really well put together. And their "what lies ahead" section is a good idea too.

I really love that Five Years Of idea, Glads! I think it'd be a really cool way of just doing a little bit of everything. So for each thing we pick our top five and then showcase those things?

How exactly would you present those five things? Like would it literally be a list those things, or I guess in the case of most of the others, we could just have a collection of pictures/anis to represent each thing?

And how would we choose our top five for each section? A voting system?

I've been looking through the celebration OP's of a lot of the other boards, and some of them have really awesome ones. I had a list which ones I really liked at home, but from the top of my head, I think I really loved the Mark Salling OP for one of their celebrations. It was an epic feat by the looks of it though.

ETA: This is the Mark Salling OP for their one year. I just really love the layout of it all. It just looks really well put together.

I also really liked the layout of Lea Michele's 1 year. Particularly the way they set out the "Friendships" section. Funnily enough they're preparing for their 2nd year celebration thread too.

Oh and I found a Rachel McAdams celebration thread that sort of incorporates some of those fan favourite ideas that you have, Glads.

Just keep in mind what some of our other celebration OP's looked like. A lot of the post count celebrations were pretty much just a banner, but our one millionth looked like this. And you can see the other milestone threads by looking at the Thread guide. But I wouldn't want anything we did for this celebration to big too much like what we've done in the past.

As for the post count milestones Glads, I don't think we celebrated 10K. It happened in like the first few weeks so I don't think we bothered.

Looking around, testimonials, icons, artwork and quotes tend to be a pretty standard thing on most celebration threads.

Are you serious? That's super impressive though; there's probably very few boards who haven't done a 10K. Our first milestone here was 100K, not even any 50K.

Thanks for all those links! I really like the way the testimonials are put together in Mark's milestone - it's neat with the different little arts in between.

And the "Friendship" section at Lea's looks nice, though it seems like quite a bit of writing. Not that I mind but I guess we'd have to narrow down how many "Friendships" we'd focus on or something.

At Lea's 300K they did a 'Celebrating 300K of..." It's kind of on that 'wavelength' of the Five Years Of...

See, this Top Five thing sounds simple, but the process of getting there is something I admittedly haven't put as much thought into. I think a 'voting system' of some sort is a smart idea. We could gather a lot from each category and move from there until we have our top five for each.

I think some sort of testimonial outside of those categories would be nice to have too. I know it's a pretty standard thing, but maybe instead of everyone writing paragraphs worth of stuff, we keep it simple, a la...

1) The year you fell in love with Vanessa/What made you notice her
2) Five words you would use to describe her
3) Where you see her being five years from now.

If it sounds lame, feel free to say so. I just have a lot of 'fives' in my head. If we'd do it kind of like at Marks, with a little V art, perhaps the 1) part of the questionaire could be incorporated into the art, and then 2) and 3) could continue in writing underneath the art.

So the art could have:
- the name of the poster - the year you fell in love with V
- a short snippet of what made you notice her

Anyway, so all this "five" talk is sounding pretty awesome to me. After Sucker Punch and its various meanings of 5, the number 5 has become kind of special to me. So it's only right that the movie that made me pay attention to Vanessa had the number which is now going to be the number of years she's had the board.

First off, congratulations on the milestone, especially to those of you who have been here from the beginning (winkwinkHolden )

My idea, which I'd be happy to turn into my contribution to the celebration, would be to do a Top 5 Most Memorable Vanessa Movie Moments. There aren't a lot of roles she's done, which is what's keeping me from doing a top 5 movie roles list, but I'm sure there have been plenty of moments in her movies that have really stood out to fans; either where she truly displayed her amazing talent, did something that was so cool or badass, or was a moment that made a fan say "now I'm in love with her." I still have to see a few more of her movies to make my own picks, but in the meantime people can submit to me, either here or PM, those moments that have really stood out to them. I would compile them all together, and depending on how many are submitted, they all could be nominess, or I'd select a certain number to be nominated, and then move on to leaving them up for votes, using a voting and elimination system that would work for the purpose of getting a genuine consensus of what the top 5 moments are.

Let me know if that's a good idea, hopefully I explained it clearly so you can understand what I'm going for. I guess you could look back and check, but I don't think it took very long at all. OKay I just checked, it took less than three weeks to hit 10K.

Oh I really like how Lea's 300K looks. And I can definitely see where you're coming from with the Five Years Of... It looks easier said than done though. At least from an artistic point of view.

I think testimonials should pretty much be a given. What we want to center around can be decided on later, since that seems like an easier section.

So instead of centering on the movies as a whole, it's particular moments within her movies that we could hone in on? That could be an idea, though it'd be nice if there was a spread of movie moments between all her movies rather than just one or two.

Yeah, let's hope the choices end up covering a good amount of her filmography. Or to be on the safe side, we could devise a way to make certain that the top 5 are all from different movies. We'll see how it goes.
