The hike provided an amazing view of a nearby lake - totally worth the two hours of huffing and puffing.

I'm not too fond of bucketloads of rain, either. Hope you enjoyed your dinner, V.

I'm so exhausted right now...after working all day, I ran a few errands, provided dinner, and watched the repeat airing of Glee's premiere episode. I'll post more tomorrow morning.

I sure did.

Oh no, sorry your internet wasn't working at home. Hopefully that will be fixed ASAP.
Did you at least enjoy your trip to the cafe?

After reading about your mention of Porcupine Tree, I had a listen to "Dark Matter" (random choice from YT search ) - I like it! Rather interesting sounds, and nice vocals...what's the word for that style of music...atmospheric? Anyway, I just might check out some more of their tunes.

Baking and laundry kept me busy for much of my weekend. I hope you had a relaxing day off work.

The net konked out cuz of the bad weather. it rained here for 3 days continously. Its working now.

A million chores and my trip to the cafe kept me busy too. I used to visit cafes a lot when I was in school, lately, I havent. So yeah, it was fun.

You listened to Dark Matter?!!! Do you even know how much I love you right now? There are very few bands/artists im very passionate about, Porcupine Tree is one of them.

They have a very diverse sound, its ungeneric, like they dont stick to just one kind of sound. Most of their stuff is progressive rock, but they have a very ambient (like Dark Matter) and electronic sound to some of their songs. Lately they've had heavy metal influences in their music too.

Steven has a great voice, he does the vocals and guitars (like Gary ). And Im obsessed with the man.

/gushing about PT

Ok, if you want to listen to more of their music, I could recommend a few songs, let me know. For now, this is the song that introduced me to PT, and it still remains one of my all time favorite songs. Its called Lazarus.

Glad to hear your internet is back up. I'm guessing you get a lot of rain during these months? Three days straight is way more than we usually get here.
Good to hear your visit to the cafe provided a good time.

Yeah, I figured I'd give one of their songs a listen since you're such a big fan and seem to have great taste in music.
Listening to "Lazarus" in a minute...thanks for the link and for the description of their sound.

We usually get the last of rains in August, but at times, Spetember gets some too. And i;d love it if it hadnt been raining all through the day. Then it gets anoying.

Hehe. Anyone who loves SP has great taste.

Ok, so the big news I wanted to share was that PT are coming to India in December. Its at a college festival in Bombay, the biggest in Asia, and so most probably I wont get the tickets or passes, but hey, its huge for me. Im going to try and get in there, Ive got to see them!!

Anyhoo, i hope you liked the song.

Interesting how climates can be so different, all over the world. Heh, even just within a province, there can be great variety - for example, where I live, and where I went during my recent trip away, there's a big difference in precipitation, amount of sunshine, and vegetation. And yes, I took Geography in high school and liked it.

Aww, that's your big news?! That's so cool!! You must be so excited! Have the tickets gone on sale yet?

Yes, I loved the song, it's beautiful!! I want to have it now.

I knew that when you used the word precipitation. I loved Geography and History. And yeah, i remember you mentioning getting bad weather where you went. Was it really bad?

I DIED OF EXCITEMENT. This is huge, I mean most of the world hasnt even heard of PT, i NEVER expected them to even consider coming to India. The trouble is that there will be passes, since its a festival, it wont be a ticketed event, and I will have trouble getting my hands on passes since I dont know anyone from that college. The organisers are promisisng that they will make sure that the PT fans get to see them, but it looks unlikely. The passes arent out yet, but I will try my best to get when they are. Lets hope for the best.

Im glad you liked it, its one of my favorite songs, and one of their best, imo.

Cool that you enjoyed Geography, too. No History class for me, although I find it more interesting now that I'm older.

Well, they were fairly typical summer thunder/lightning/hail/wind storms. It wasn't too bad since the worse one only lasted about half an hour...we could see it building beforehand. We were just glad to be indoors at the time. We were driving during the lighter storm, so were were sheltered once again.

Oooh, I see...well, I'll be crossing my fingers for you to get a pass, once they're on sale!
Would you have to travel far to get to Bombay?

What are some of your other song rec's for PT?

I was a nerd in school.

Wow, thank god you all were inside and safe during the storms. We dont get very bad storms here, but its scary if you get stuck out during one.

Thanks. yes, Bombay is across the country, so i will have to travel a lot, unless I decide to fly.

Wow, now thats a toughie, Im such a huge fan that I like almost all their music, how do I recommend a few. Ok, so these are few of my favorites.

Ok, so PT dont really make videos, Steven is very against the music culture right now, and he doesnt believe in bands making videos, he's all for live performances, wooing crowds with their music, and not by getting pretty people in their videos. So most of the vids on YT are live performances. I will upload a few album versions for you tomorrow, if you want to listen to them. For now, im posting a few videos, of songs which they performd live, as good or better than the album versions.

And Steven looks so darn good!

I'll check 'em all out, but it might take me a few days. Thanks for going to the effort of posting all those vids!

Today I listened to "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" - fantastic guitar playing in that song, and I'll comment again about Steven's very pleasant singing voice. It's a long tune, but it still has variety and continuity from start to finish.

I hope everyone's having a good week so far!

You listened to Arriving somewhere... I know its a long song. PT have one such song in every album. Like SP's The lightning strike. And very few of PT songs are short or song based, they usually have long instrumental parts.

You are so right about the variety and the consistency in the song. This song has that part right in between, that is very "metal" in sound, im not quite fond of that. but I adore rest of the song. The guitaring right at the end is exquisite. I find some of their music almost orgasmic. It just affects me immensely.

I cant wait to hear what you have to say about Steven. I love love that man.

Im planning to catch the premiere of The Vampire Diaries, tonight or maybe tomorrow, most of my friends say it was good.

My week's been good. Thanks. I think my mum's going to be visiting me in a a week or so. She's driving my father nuts. His words not mine.

I hope you have a good day today, Szilvia.

I'd love to post/type more, but it's been a not-so-good day. One of my girls is sick with the flu...neither of us got much sleep last night.
Today I was preoccupied with the aftermath from that, so hence my lack of posting earlier.
If all goes well, I'll have more chance to post tomorrow. I'll get back to you about your previous post, too.

Anyone remember me?

I haven't been around because life has just basically been insane. For those of you who have been aware of the long running medical drama in my family, well my aunt (mum's sister) passed away on Monday afternoon after a 5 month battle with lung cancer, so it's been a very sad and intense time. I'm sure it will truly hit at the funeral this coming Tuesday, but right now my overwhelming emotion is relief, because at the end she suffered a great deal of pain and I'm glad that's over for her. Something like that really makes you stop taking life for granted.

So how is everyone?

Cat Good to see you. I saw your entry about your aunt's passing away. Im so sorry, hun. Ive had two of my family members struggle with terminal illnesses, suffer long, and then pass away. Relief is what one feels, mainly. The sadness hits later. The funeral is going to be hard. You and your family will be in my thoughts.

Szilvia, im sorry about your daughter falling sick. Hope she feels better soon. I send her hugs. And no pressure to get on here till she feels alright, which I hope is soon.

My day's been weird. I found out today that my 16yr old cousin in Canada, the one im pretty close to, is pregnant. My whole family is freaking out.
