When I first played this album, I was floored by the fact that I enjoyed every single song on it...this has hardly ever happened with other albums. It's a magnificent collection of songs!

I agree! That's only happened to me with a few other albums, and it faded over time. Like, the Z!A!V!D! Hellogoodbye album had awesome tracks the first time I listened to it. And then I realized there were a few I didn't like that much, so that idea faded. This album, though, hasn't done that yet. I still love every single track.

Sounds like we're all in the same boat. I found it so refreshing to finally find an album that I'm so in love with...I can still hardly wait until the next time I put it on. It's never soon enough!

I'll join the boat It hardly ever happens that I listen to an album and like all the songs - Eyes open is one of these albums. SP did such an amazing job with Eyes open, I don't think I'll ever get tired listening to it.

In fact I'm listening to it once again right now

^ That's an amazing song...
Martha Wainwright's voice gives a touch of magic to the music and lyrics

I love that song, too.

I read about how the title for "Set The Fire To The Third Bar" came about...Gary was inspired by something from his youth...a heater that you warm a room with...it had 3 heating bars...when it was really cold, they'd turn on the third bar.

I love this album. So much. I'm listening to it right now, I've had it in my music rotation non-stop for the past three months and I've yet to tire of it. I'm a big fan of Martha Wainwright so for her to duet with one of my favorite bands was an added bonus, "Set Fire to the Third Bar" has such a unique quality to it, I think. I can't stop listening to that song. I also love the Sufjan Stevens reference in "Hands Open."

Thanks, Szilvia
I've been wondering since last summer what was the meaning of that title

That's really interesting! Thanks for the info. I liked the sound of the title; I kind of thought that it meant bars of music. Like .. "set fire" meant to bring the third bar alive, or to revolutionize the way music sounds or something like that.

As usual, I look too deeply into things trying to find hidden meanings, when it's actually very simple.

I have the album on right now too, current song is Chasing Cars. I find that song more beautiful each time I hear it. I always find something new to appreciate each time I play the album.

Angie and Maryalice, you're welcome about STFTTTB. It doesn't seem like a heater has much to do with the meaning of the lyrics, though...I usually just think of the literal meaning...actually setting fire to a bar. I guess since they hang their coats up in the first bar, etc...makes me think of a drinking establishment.

And Maryalice, that's a unique interpretation of the title.

Martha and Gary singing together sounds amazing...the song gave me goosebumps when I first heard it! Actually, it still does.

Jessica, I hunted down "Chicago" by Sufjan Stevens and listened to it, because of the song reference... very nice.
