Yes we're finally gonna get some Helo/Kara interactions!!

It's good to see that even Adama knew that he could trust Helo to choose the people who would follow Kara. But i felt that Helo acted rather too formal in the scene, a little cold too.

But i'm sure once they spend some time together again, they'll be laughing just like old times.

There can be two interpretations of that significant glance between Adama and Helo. One is that he was charging Helo with looking after her. The other is that Helo had been instructed to be on guard in case Kara is a cylon. Maybe Helo has been instructed to do both and he is trying to keep his personal feeling in check so he can make impartial decisions about Kara.

I hope not since I really like their friendship and it would be difficult for him. I watched the mini series this weekend and I noticed in the very beginning when Kara hits Tigh over the card game, it's Helo and Sharon who come to her aid, to hold her back and break up the fight.

It was established in S2, not the mini-series that Starbuck and Helo were friends since he was assigned to the Galactica. Kara mentioned something like "I get it Helo, I was there from the beginning and saw you" when she was talking about Helo falling in love with Sharon while on Caprica.

at least since being assigned to the Galactica... Tahmoh & Katee have tried to create a backstory for them but so far nothing is official.

I hope so, too. It would be really nice if they reminisced about their past and if Helo was trying to get more information out of her then she knows she has... it would be interesting.

I still say he should publish those (in edited version of course) to give the fans the background/histories and meanings of all things BSG.

It was plain that Kara is in charge of the mission, but Helo technically outranks her, so he is in charge of the crew/ship.

OK this has gotten me curious about what officer ranks we have on BSG and it which order. This is my guess going from lowest to highest:

Ensign
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Colonel
Commander
Admiral

Does that seem right? At first I thought XO but that seems to be a staff position and not a rank just as CAG is a position and not a rank. Not sure how all this works.

Since the various characters seem to be promoted and demoted at various times throughout the series I'm not sure what ranks Kara and Karl currently have.

Right, XO just stands for Executive Officer and CO is Commanding Officer. They are titles, not ranks. If you want to look at it, Tigh is the XO and Adama is the CO. As for your rank listing, I think it looks pretty good. I mean, if you want to look at the officers.

We don't really know the enlisted ranks because they are hardly used it seems. I mean, we know that Tyrol is Chief Petty Officer, and some of the others are Petty Officers.

Chief Petty Officer is the highest rank a none commissioned person can achieve, as in no officer's training.

The first rank everyone else receives is Lt, for every viper pilot is one.
Normally a group commander is a Captain. Major outranks Captain in rank, Lee was CAG as both Captain and then Major.

I'm sure Kara is a Captain in rank, and I'm sure Helo is a Major right now.

In one of this season's episodes they referred to Anders as Ensign. I'm not sure if any other character has been addressed as such but I do know Sam was.

Did anyone notice in the mini series during some kind of role call they referred to another Anders? Can't be Sam's relation since he is a cylon.

Alex, I don't think Helo's a Major yet. I thought he was still captain?

I'm thinking he got promoted last year to a major, he was the x/o to Adama, you've gotta be at least a major to do that, or Lt. Col.

I believe that both Helo & Kara were called "Captain" tonight... just Kara was in charge of the mission.

Helo has to technically out rank her... right? He was 2nd in command of the Galactica at one time... and step down one rank for Tigh.

Tonight was interesting for their friendship. It's obvious she is his best friend and he wants to believe her... but at the end he just could risk not getting the fleet back home (and probably himself & Sharon back to their daughter). Man Kara was literally hurt by Helo telling her no... so interesting.
