I agree that this is the case for many people... although I don't tend to fall in that category, I always tend to accept shows and whatnot just for what they are and not for something that they could be. That said in this case I didn't know the old show until AFTER having watched the miniseries and was curious to see what the old one was like.

As for the first season... I was definitely so excited when everything got arranged and the miniseries became a series and I got to have some of my questions answered. And then it led me on an amazing journey with the fleet. I remember how I used to love to obsess over watching the population count although it's not quite as obvious season one as in season two, but still. Might just have to pull out my DVDs and watch S1 again, I know I was planning on it...

That is very well said

For me, it was the journey of the main and side characters, their relationship that made it so interesting to watch.

The characters sold the show for me.

S1 was fantastic in every way, and I can't wait to see what will happen next!

I really liked the Helo/Sharon storyline

Loved the Kara/#6 fight in the finale

I'm watching the first season again ( 4th time ) and I just noticed something that I didn't pay much attention to before. In 'Act of Contrition' Kara has prescient dreams/visions of her ejecting from her viper and falling to the asteroid ( or moon ) in the next episode. When I first saw this episode I thought she was envisioning something that had happened to Zak. I was confused the first time and didn't pay much attention the other 2 times. But this time I noticed. She sees exactly what happens to her in the future.

In 'Flesh and Bone' Laura has a prescient dream of Leoben being air-locked. But she experiences it while under the influence of camala and it is not exact. Kara experiences the exact sequence of events several times.

I've seen discussions about the significance of various dreams/visions of several people but this one of Kara's is never discussed.

Another thing I noticed the 3rd time I watched 'Flesh and Bone' was in Laura's dream she is running and hiding from the Galactica marines and she trusts Leoben even though she knows he is a cylon. I never really paid attention to that before but it got me wondering why.

I guess this is not the thread to discuss these because it would inevitably lead to spoilers, but I just wanted to note that there is a lot more to each episode that often doesn't stand out until seeing them again.

I think that I understand what you are saying about the vision because I just watched that episode a few days ago. I remember her seeing them in the particular episode that she crashed, but I'll go back to the episode before that one. Do you remember about when she had the vision?

I think that I noticed Laura running from the guards in her dream while in the forest

It was in the episode 'Act of Contrition' where we first find out about Kara's part in Zak's death. Several times Kara either dreams or "spaces out" and sees this vision of her ejecting from her **** pit and falling down to the aseroid's durface. The exact thing happens when her vipor gets damaged at the end of that episode.

Some one pointed out that Laura's dream where she is hiding from the Galactica marines fortells when Adama sends the Col. Tigh with the marines to arrest Laura and overthrow the civil government.

Well I told Sarah I'd follow her here! We both just finished watching Season 1 this week.

I started off really loving the Helo/Sharon storyline but something about her bothered me by the end of the season. I think her showing her more vulnerable and "human" side is obviously important now that she wants to keep hold of Helo and her baby but I always expect the Cylons to be crazy like Six!

I've turned into a ridiculous Starbuck/Apollo shipper of late but my favourite character by far is Gaius. Every time he's on screen I just break into this big grin because he is just so hapless for such a clever guy!

When Six is yelling in his face while he's in Adama's quarters and he drops his water and squeals like a girl.. oh my I nearly died.

I really love both characters related to Helo/Sharon. I love both verisons of Sharon and Grace does a great job as her. Helo is amazing as well

Gaius

Kara is my fave character, however I have so many faves. So yes Gaius fits in there and he's just so interesting as well as funny

Number Six is great too, she's such a great character and its like one point she's religion/in love yet she can be evil too

I adore Crashdown as well, but looked up his thing on imdb and doesn't seem he sticks around
