Band From TV #2: The King of the Keys

: Made by Ada (enitiy22) :

Since we all know that the Band From TV is Hugh's side project, I thought I would start a thread for the TV Supergroup

The band did a couple of gigs over the weekend and I found a report from the mad place called TWOP , the person went to both gigs on Saturday and Sunday and said that Hugh was just brilliant on both nights. Anyway's here is the report

Quote:
Here is my little adventure from tonight. I think there were only about six of us who weren't VIPs. I swear, everyone else there was family or friends of the band, including one David Shore. Great crowd though. The band even told us so. To follow up on DK's report, Hugh was wearing a Fedora - it was greenish/gray. Very cool. He was wearing black jeans, a black Barking Irons (?) t-shirt and brown suede boots. The band walked right by us as they came into the studio - all pumped up and ready to rock. Hugh was really quiet/focused though. But he seemed to really be having a great time once on the stage. That man can play the piano. Did I mention it was grand piano? A big beautiful black grand piano that Mr. Hugh Laurie was playing. The whole band is just so freaking good. Bonnie Sommerville is simply awesome. She is so petit and tiny and out comes this voice.

DK mentioned the song "Lean on Me" that Hugh and Bonnie did for the first time...I had a little hint because one of the band members told someone I was standing next to before the show started that during the first show, Hugh and Bonnie spontaneously decided to do this song they had never done or talked about doing. Never rehearsed or anything. But they just did it. Out of the blue it just came over Hugh to try it. One of those one in a million type things - and the band was blown away. He wasn't going to say what it was, because he didn't want to ruin the surprise and he wasn't sure if they were going to do it again because it turned out so awesome the first time. But they did do it again. Can I come back as Bonnie Sommerville in another life? Please. Such sweet smiles Hugh gives her. Towards the end of the show, Hugh got up and was shuffle dancing, clapping to the music as they do their band member intros. He was very aware of when the camera was on him as well, getting close ups, and he would look into the camera and really play it up. I eventually moved to the side of the stage he was on so I could get my own close up. I still can't really believe he was only three or four feet from me. Hugh had some wonderful solos and sang two songs, one with Greg Grunberg. I'm not sure about all of the song titles, but he sang one about going in circles. I know, it's awful I don't know the name of that song. Or the other one he sang. I'm really lame, aren't I? As far as the other songs they did these are the titles I do remember: Mustang Sally, Pink Cadillac (Jamie Denton sang that. Damn. He's really, really hot and also sang Viva Las Vegas), Girl,You Really Got Me, The Letter (by the Box Tops), Shake Your Tail Feather, Piece Of My Heart, Feelin' Alright, and damn. I just can't remember right now. They also started off with a Band From TV song. When Hugh was introduced at the end, he hammed it up and took several bows using his arms very expressively.

At the end of the show, Hugh pointed to David Shore and gave him a little "thanks for coming" wave. All of the band members came into the crowd except Hugh. He was onstage for a couple of mintues talking to one of the band members, but once he got offstage, he headed straight towards the door. I just happened to be right there as he was leaving and he accidentally tripped on a bump in the floor that was covering electrical stuff. I instintively put my hand on his shoulder. I think I managed to tell him how great the show was. He was very kind and thanked me, but it was clear he was looking for the nearest exit.
Can't wait for the DVD and CD

I think we might add this thread in our summer challenge. We can decorate the OP (making some arts ...)

mentioning the hat reminded me of a funny thing : I read a news about Johnny Depp sending a fan(a young boy) his hat after the boy asked if he can have it when he got to meet Depp while he was filming on location in the boy's town.Apparently Johnny said yes but didn't give it right away for some reason(maybe filming with it or something) but his parents contacted his reps to give their address and such and soon he got the hat + some other memorabilia and a note from Depp. That to me was so cool and I immediately thought of that hat Hugh wears during the BFTV concerts.

The only song I know is "You can't always get what you want" from the House Soundtrack.
