Zac to star & executive produce in Mandate Thriller

Zac Efron has signed to star in an untitled thriller for Mandate Pictures, which is being written by Leslie Dixon. The plot is being kept under wraps but it is described as "a sexy thriller." The deal continues the evolution of Efron from the teen heartthrob of the "High School Musical" franchise to a more mature leading man, and also sees him stepping into producing shoes. He will act as executive producer with Mandate's Nathan Kahane. Frequent Mandate collaborator Greg Shapiro of Kingsgate Films ("The Hurt Locker"), Jason Barrett, and Dixon will produce. Nicole Brown will oversee the project for Mandate. Efron and Dixon, a respected veteran writer whose credits include 1999's "The Thomas Crown Affair and "Freaky Friday," first worked together on "Hairspray." No director is on board. Efron, repped by CAA and Alchemy Entertainment, last starred in New Line's teen comedy "17 Again," which grossed almost $63 million domestically. Dixon is repped by CAA.

Now it looks like the rumors are true and that the plum role is going to Zac Efron, the 21-year-old pretty-boy star who is hoping the action role will help him dance away from youth-pop vehicles and whip up a career-redefining franchise in the Indiana Jones mode. (Dwayne Johnson is circling the project as well and would be the brawny version of pilot and man-of-action Race Bannon.) The choice of Efron is going to stir up fans of the classic Quest series because, well, Jonny was just an 11-year-old in the prime-time cartoons of the 1960s that so deftly pulled on Milton Canniff, Ian Fleming and Rudyard Kipling for their spirit of exotic adventure. I myself think it's a surprising but interesting choice, and I'm one of the people in town who think Efron (like Justin Timberlake) has a big future ahead of him and that people will look back on his frothy Disney duty as just the early steps in the choreography of his career. Making Jonny older will change the property, to be sure, but maybe it will make it richer as well.

I merged the post you put into LIL into a new thread, but I didn't realize you posted it again so there were like three News Threads

&& I talked about the possibility of him being in another Robot Chicken sketch or two in the Guest Appearance thread, Betty
Remember when he had all that downtime after 17 Again? He was pap'd at a recording studio with Seth.

The Season Four finale aired a few weeks ago Especially the Animal Keith Crofford (the episode V did), && they're more than likely going to get picked up for a fifth. && I talked to someone who's done Robot Chicken before && she recorded her sketches over a year before they ever aired.

Since Season Five probably won't start airing til next Summer - yea it's a very good possibility we'll see new sketches

yes i remember those shots.....they also coincided with the PH spoof vid, so for me i was never sure whether that was all he did that day

Seth wouldn't have had to be there for that, he's not in charge of FOD. Also, they wouldn't have been at a recording studio, they coulda just filmed that at Breckin or Zac's house But that's just me && my assumptions
