Hannibal Buress Joining Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron in 'Baywatch' (Exclusive)

Comedian Hannibal Buress is in final negotiations to join Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron in Baywatch, Paramount’s big-screen version of the 1990s television series about California lifeguards

The movie, with Seth Gordon in the director’s chair, centers on the leader of an elite group of lifeguards (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young hotshot former Olympian (Efron) in order to save the beloved bay.

The cast already includes Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Kelly Rohrbach as members of the slow-motion running lifeguard team.

Buress will play one of the locals in the bay community.

The movie begins shooting Feb. 22.

Buress, who has appeared on shows such as Broad City, is known to many as being the spark for the current Bill Cosby sexual assault scandal when he called the man a "rapist" during an comedy act. The act prompted a re-examination of Cosby's past behavior.

The comedian recently shot an appearance opposite James Franco and Seth Rogen in New Line’s The Disaster Artist and does voice work in Illuminations and Universal’s upcoming animated film The Secret Life of Pets. He was also seen in Paramount's surprise hit comedy Daddy’s Home.

Dwayne Johnson announced today that ‘Quantico’ star Priyanka Chopra has come aboard to play the main villain in Paramount's ‘Baywatch’ movie.

"The actor's statement not only confirms that production will begin next week, but also reiterates a statement he made back in August, that this project will be R rated. Of course, studios will likely be far less hesitant to aim for an R rating now, after the massive success of Deadpool. The story follows a "by-the-book and very serious lifeguard," played by Dwayne Johnson who joins forces with a "young rule-flouting hothead" (Zac Efron) to try and save their beach from environmental destruction by an oil tycoon. While we don't have specific details about Priyanka Chopra's character yet, it seems likely she's playing the oil tycoon.

She joins a cast that includes Ilfenesh Hadera as Mitch's love interest Stef, who could be Stephanie Holden, originally played by Alexandra Paul in the TV series. Alexandra Daddario will be playing Summer Quinn, a character originally portrayed by Nicole Eggert, and Kelly Rohrbach has come aboard to play Pamela Anderson's beloved character C.J. Parker. It hasn't been revealed yet if Zac Efron is playing a character from the original series or not. It has been rumored that roles were written for both Pamela Anderson and David Hoff, but it isn't known if they will come aboard yet. While she wouldn't officially comment on the rumors back in August, Pamela Anderson said that "no one appreciates the remakes.

"Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is directing from a screenplay most recently written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (Friday the 13th). Justin Malen (Bad Teacher 2) wrote the original draft of the script, with Dwayne Johnson also producing alongside Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman. Before starring in ABC's hit first-year series Quantico, Indian actress Priyanka Chopra was considered one of the biggest stars of Bollywood, starring in hits like Krrish, Don and Love Story 2050.
