Synopsis

A drama centered on an enterprising farmer whose plans cause problems within his family. Henry Whipple (Dennis Quaid), a humorous farmer and seed-seller whose pursuit of expansion alienates his two sons and devoted wife, Irene. When his prodigal son does not return to the farm, Henry turns to his younger, rebellious son Dean (Zac Efron) who also rejects the family legacy to pursue his dreams of becoming a race car driver.

Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron have boarded an untitled Ramin Bahrani pic, which London-based international sales and production outfit Bankside Films is shopping in Cannes. Pic, which is to lense in summer, tells the story of a farmer whose manic expansion alienates his sons and devoted wife. Pic, which comes out of Bankside's development deal with Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler's Killer Films, is being shopped domestically by CAA. KillerMoxie's Justin Nappi and Brian Young produces and Andrew Levitas co-produces.

At the same time casting is happening for Ramin Bahrani’s untitled farm film (previously known as Heartland). They put an offer out to Dennis Quaid, he likes it and signs on. The director flies out to meet him. The other main role needs to be cast now (the son of of the character being played by Dennis Quaid) and Killer make an offer to Zac Efron. Killer wants to get the the two main roles cast so they can secure the financing as fast as possible. The film is set in heartland America amongst the corn fields – they need to be filming in a couple of months when there is corn.

Bahrani has penned the script and will direct. Pic revolves around a farmer whose manic expansion and involvement in the genetic foods debate alienates his family. Monroe will play Efron's girlfriend. Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler, Brian Young, Kevin Turen and Justin Nappi through Killer Films and Benaroya Pictures. EHS says it's the old movie title. They dropped it a couple months ago. Don't know if they decided to call it that name again
