Studio 60 1x21 - "K&R Part 3" Episode Discussion (06/21/07)

Via TVGuide.com:

Conclusion. Jordan's pregnancy scare and Tom's family crisis make for a long day at work, during which flashbacks tell the story behind Danny and Matt's original dismissal from the show.

Well, that sounds better for Jordan, so that's good. At least we don't have the word "worsening" in this weeks synopsis. Anywho, am really interested to see how exactly Matt and Danny's dissmissal went, I love the flashbacks.

I was expecting a conclusion in this episode, but there wasn't any. Why didn't they just say it was a four part episode? More thoughts later.

I thought we would have more of conclusion too. I'm still worried for Jordan. Once again a convo with Mary has me freaked for her. Bradley Whitford and Matthew Perry both blew me away with their performances.

Also loved the Simon and Jack scenes.

I also thought there would be somewhat of a conclusion. I was a watching and then it was over and I was like, what?

And yet AGAIN, promo for AoL instead of S60. It's the freaking Series Finale next week and they can't even bother to advertise for it?!

I didn't like P3 as much as P2. And while the flash backs are interestings, I would much rather see what's happening now.

The lack of confusion was infuriating! The K&R episodes are very, very heavy. The subject matter alone guides you into that dark territory but the darkness of it was surprising. To me, there is no way in which we will be having any conclusion for any storyline. Everything is up in the air. Jordan is in very bad shape, with piled upon complications. Matt & Co. are dealing with the whole Tom’s brother hostage mess and everything is as unresolved as when we entered into this territory. I could have stood to have a few open ended sl’s outstanding but this many irks me. I’m invested in these characters and I want to know what is going to happen to them.

That said, despite these disappointments there were some moments that were incredible:

Harriet/Danny, most especially the quote “I know now isn’t the time but he makes some valid points,”

Some more facts about Jack, including his more lush like appearance and hearing about his divorce. I really feel this fleshes out his character even further and I greatly enjoyed the banter back and forth between Simon/Jack. Also loving how Tom knew that Simon would never apologize for his comments, way to know your best friend!

Mary Tate! She has quickly become one of my favorite characters. She’s got a soft heart as is exhibited by all her help in the Tom situation but she’s practical to a fault. She is seriously one bad chick. Awesome. Yay for strong female characters.

Matt wearing his suit with tennis shoes.

More thoughts in response to other peoples post coming.

Oh Jack. How one character can make a whole show better for me.

Seriously, the Jack/Matt stuff and the flashbacks to what happened when Matt and Danny got fired? That was more than brilliant. To see Jack's POV on the situation, and his inner anguish, that was fantastic. It's so damn interesting! To see how everything unravelled back then and how it affects the present situation. The way it's done, it's genius!

The Simon/Jack stuff was great too. Again, we get to see the situation from both sides and that's what's interesting. We get Jack, as much as we get Simon.

Another Jack-related moment that I loved. At the beginning of his big moment with Matt, he mentions Jordan's condition. He's keeping tabs on her. And he's really worried. It's little, but finally we get Jack's reaction to what's happening to Jordan! Really loved that tidbit.

About Danny/Matt... I loved that Matt asked Jack the exact same thing Danny asked Jordan's doctor. Really showed how similar these two are.

And I repeat, I love Jordan's doctor.

I liked how Harriet tried to distract Danny, but she got on my nerves a little when she, again, mentionned praying. I know it was in Danny & Jordan's best interest... but her preaching thing annoys me greatly. And I believe in God.

So next week is the series finale, uh? What a shame.

Very angsty and heavy duty. I loved it . I too expected more of a conclusion, but this now leave us to wonder how it will all wrap up. I believe Jordan will be fine.

I loved Jack. Steven Weber is awesome.

Loved Danny/Harriet scenes. I am really enjoying Sarah Paulson lately . kudos.

Loved the Matt/Harriet flashbacks.

Simon/Jack convo was good too.

Matt and Brad continue to amaze me . god.

Matt's face when talking to Mary about the baby..

Danny 's expressions when hearing updates about Jordan. The worry, the pain , the agony. Leaning against the glass and then kneeling down just about killed me. Bradley Whitford you are fabulous.

Aaron Sorkin really knows how to bring the drama.

I agree that I expected more of a conclusion for this episode. Right now, I'm having a hard time seeing how all the storylines are going to be wrapped up in one episode. That said, I have faith in Sorkin. I also have a hard time believing that he didn't know this was really going to be the end. So, I'm holding out hope that the finale is going to be good and satisfying. *crosses fingers*

I think my favorite scenes were actually the Jack/Simon ones. Shocking, I know, considering I'm usually complaining about Simon. But I really liked them. Especially the first scene, when he was searching Danny's office for liquor. Jack just seemed more human to me in this episode. Oh, and I like how he's been with Tom. In the beginning of the season, I never would have expected to see Jack like this.

I also enjoyed the flashback scenes with Jack/Matt/Danny. I like how we're not only getting to see what actually happened, but how it parallels what's happening right now.

I do like the Matt/Mary scenes now that I don't see her as a potential love interest for him. Especially when they were talking about D/J/baby.

Danny/Harriet scenes were good also, but I just want to hear that Jordan's going to be okay already. Oh, and it would be nice to actually see her again.

Word times ten. I've been really loving Harriet lately. I loved her in most of the scenes with Danny. I LOVED the "This is not the time, but he makes some good points" line. But sometimes she's a little heavy handed and I want to gag a little bit.

I'm trying to separate my frustration with the lack of conclusion that I was expecting and how I actually felt about the episode. Because I know I was enjoying it until the very end when I was very 'WTF? Where's the conclusion?' Ellie, I'm still with you trusting Sorkin, and I'm certain that he knew long long ago that this show wasn't coming back. So, I still expect some sort of wrapping up of most of the story lines. Even if I'm not quite sure how we're getting there.

Mary scared me again with talking about the babies. Except that this time I think she's right. Danny is the father of this baby and I think Jordan would want to make sure that stays that way even if she doesn't make it (she better not die). So this scary comment was a little better than the one suggesting Danny not see the baby at all.

I like the flashbacks. I like seeing this stuff, but I feel like there may be too many or too much of the same stuff. There's so much going on in the present that when we're sent back there I'm left being 'Ok. That was funny, but wtf is going on with Jordan? Is Tom really going to do this with Trask?'

Ack with the doctor. Sometimes I really like him and sometimes I'm right there with Danny threatening his life because he's so freaking annoying.

Jack is awesome. Still don't like Simon even though I agree with him on this. And I'm not sure how helpful an apology would be in either of the parallel situations we're in right now.

Missed Cal and Jordon.

I think that's it. I will be a very unhappy fan if there is no resolution in the next episode.

I just have this sinking feeling that hardly anything will get wrapped up next episode and it really really pissses me off.

I just, I have to believe that Sorkin will do what he can, but I guess I was just expecting us to go out with more of a bang.

I was irked at the lack of conclusion. The flashbacks are interesting but at this point, I'm too worried about Jordan and Tom's brother to where they're starting to hit my nerves.

The H/D stuff was good. I wish Harry had gone about the praying thing differently, but I can see where she's coming from too. She's got their best interests at heart and she's going with that right now more so than her head.

The Jack/Simon stuff was great. Like someone else said, it went to further humanizing our Jack. His concern for Jordan was also good.

I missed Cal, I missed Jordan. I missed the funny. We've gotten into some dark stuff and while the attempts at humor are there, it's not the same

I'm just hoping my little heart out that Sorkin works his magic and wraps up as much as he can and that we get the happy endings we've worried about so much.

I thought this was a great episode...not as good as part II, but that's okay. I really want to know what's going to happen. I think if NBC had given this show a chance, it would have come around. They should have stuck with the original plan and put it on Thursdays at 10 at the beginning of the season.

Anyways, I digress. There was so much stuff in this episode and a lot of conversations between people we haven't see talk to one another much before. I loved the Simon/Jack stuff. I loved the part about apologizing to Hawaii. Just a nice bit of comedy in such a dark and heavy episode.

The flashbacks were getting annoying, but I kinda liked them this week. They filled in the blanks. I was annoyed last week because I thought they were actually going to wrap up the reasons behind M/D getting fired. It's getting better.

Mary's character was annoying in the beginning, but I like what she has brought to the storylines. I think she's that strong female lead the show was missing originally.

I'm a little sad that we'll never see the article Christine Lahiti is writing, the stage get reconstructed with advertising, the purpose of Hallie, etc.

I liked the Simon/Jack stuff. It was sort of surprising to hear about Jack's divorce, but good surprising.

I'm nervous about Tom's decision to go with the K/R thing.

I think I'm glad I've been watching it online. No annoying Age of Love ads--on a sidenote, the show is getting horrible ratings. NBC might as well put in an hour of adversiting or one of those hour-long paid advertisements in the time slot. That's the only way they'll ever make any money on Monday's at 10--unless they bought the rights to one of the many CSIs.

I think I'm letting my worries make me sound more negative than I meant to. It was a good episode, there were a lot of great scenes and such. I'm just concerned about the lack of conclusion.

Not really. Didn't he mention someting about it back around THD2? Whenever the mess with Kim getting drunk was.
