Studio 60 1x15 - "The Friday Night Slaughter" Episode Discussion (2/11/2007)

Via tvguide.com

It's a walk down memory lane for Matt as he recalls his romantic history with longtime (ex) love and “Studio 60” funny gal Harriet.

I'm watching the episode right now. Good so far, but it's a little too much of Matt in my opinion

I thought the Danny/Jordan scenes was very cute. When he talked to her stomache...or baby...and she said "Done?" and then giggled and walked away....cute! And when Danny said "I'm your man!" Jordan: "Yes, you are..." Cute! How can anyone NOT love this couple..??!

I'm not the biggest D/J fan but they were quite cute in this ep.

Such a sad episode though Poor Matty. I wanted to strangle that singer for giving him the pills. It was amazing seeing those flashbacks. I never realized Luke was @ Studio 60.

Matthew was amazing, as always.

Hallie is freaking scary.

I missed Jack, a lot...

Totally agree SpySyd.

This episode was so different from all of the rest. I don't like this Matt. But he is the one that's supposed to mess up...that's what he said.

I really liked this ep alot. It had a dark feel to it , and Matthew was excellent. I was surprised to see that next week's promo looked to be on the lighter side regarding Matt, but that may be deceiving.

YAY for Danny and Jordan. The banter was great and they were staying to true to themselves without being to sappy. LOL. I thought Danny's reactions to Jordan's trying to cover up was hilarious. way to go Brad. Amanda Peet is really looking beautiful and nice to see the lighter side of Jordan too.

Tom and Dylan were great. Cal, what can you say. Always great.

I thought the flashbacks were very good and it held my interest completely.

As for Luke (especially that beard) and Hallie-----ICK, ICK, ICK !

once I again, I can't wait for next week. Damn this second hiatus .

I dunno, I thought the episode was a little slow. I liked the flashbacks, it's kind of cool to see where everyone came from and why matt hates luke so much but other than that it was kind of lame. I'm glad danny's not stalking jordan anymore but i find their relationship creepy in some way so it's not like a huge relief. I guess I'd rather see matt and harry get together because it feels like they have a bit more chemistry than danny and jordan but I don't write the show so there ya go. I still like the episode that introduced darius the best...they need to showcase DL Hugley a bit more in my opinion...

Oh, Matty. He's just making me really sad right now. I too, was not very happy with that singer when she gave him the pills. I felt so bad for him, he seems to be headed down a dark, scary path. I saw the thing coming, with him being the writer in the blue shirt and khakis, but it was still hard to watch him get upset with everyone when they couldn't figure out what he was talking about.

I liked the flashbacks, wasn't expecting to see Luke. Definitely didn't expect to find out that he and Matt shared an office back in the day. I liked this Matt and Harriet. Cute, goofy, and without all of the drama.

Seriously, Hallie needs to go away. I haven't liked her from the second she opened her mouth and she's really bothering Jordan, which bothers me.

Tom and Dylan were kind of cute. They added some much needed comedy.

Cal! I'm just happy when we get to see lots of Cal.

I kind of missed Jack even though I understand why he wasn't in the epi. Don't know where they would have fit him in.

Simon mangaged not to annoy me for the first time in a couple of weeks so that was nice.

I love D/J. They were so adorable. "I'm your man." "Yes, you are."

I loved this episode and I especially loved the flashback part.
It felt like a completely different and hopeful show.

Matt/Sarah have soo much chemistry its almost unbearable.
I hope we get more flashbacks because it wasnt Matt's sketch that actually got on the air first. Maybe Harriet flubbed it and Matt actually improved it?
They always said that Matt and Harriet made each other stars.
I wish we could have seen a younger Danny too.

Speaking of Danny, I loved his scenes with Jordan. They are so cute together.

The whole episode just rocked!!

Nor did I.

This was just so heartbreaking. I like Harriet on the whole but I do feel now, and even in the beginning that she was in some way pitting Matt and Luke against each other. No wonder Matt harbors all that resentment. I’ve said from the beginning that Matt and Danny have addictive personalizes – the difference of the two is how they deal with it (Danny to work through his issues and Matt to drown in them). I just saw this as the next logical step to Matt. I hope that this dark Matt doesn’t disappear as easily as the promos made it look because to do it would be to take away from all the internalizing and self discovery stuff he had going on here. The singer, well, I was unhappy that she gave him the pills but some the brief introduction we got to her who’s to know that she’s not in a deep dark place too. I was hoping that he’d throw the pills away, but he didn’t, so sad. I was also a little irked by Danny and Harriet, for different reasons. Danny did take the time to talk with him but I think his cloud nine Jordan time has kind of blinded him to what Matt might be going through. I felt he was being almost judgmental in parts when Matt was trying to explain what he was going through, especially by saying “Well, that’s what you an Harriet do,”. And Harriet for just being a little too self involved for the moment. I felt like both Harriet and Matt had good points during their argument but she seems so stuck in her “right” morals and thoughts that she can’t even see his side. Angsty Matt needs hugs.

I loved Dylan and Tom. They were a welcome break to all the darkness and gloom. I like Dylan, and when we seem him it’s always pleasant. When was the last time we saw him, B-12?

I also enjoyed seeing the little bit of Simon, who, it seems was always a bit of an ass. Good insight to why he’s even moreso now, with success.

The Jordan/Danny was cute, especially the little message to the baby. To me it felt a little forced, with the fleas on her sofa ect. but I do so enjoy them it didn’t phase me too much. Please, oh, please let Haylie jump off a cliff and die – horrid character, horrid, horrid…

Missing Jack and Lucy like crazy.

Overall a hard episode to watch, though very well written.

Tom/Dylan were I love them.

Danny/Jordan: If this keeps up Kill me now! Omgosh! I get that they are on 'cloud nine', the beginning of their relationship floaty joy happiness thing, but if this is what they amount their characters to, just a sappy couple who can't stop phoning each other and grinning I'm going to someone! More especially the writers for doing that to both actors and characters.

See to me, Danny/Jordan are characters that drive the 'show' part of the show. And now they've reduced them to this? Man I was at least happy a little bit, about Hallie/Jordan scene because it was Jordan without Danny. And the deduction thing - yeah I think we all figured it out that Hallie timed that 'just right'. She's doing a really bang up job to make me hate her though. So kudos to the actress I guess? or maybe not?

It's like she's really gunning for Jordan and it's really pissing me off.

And to the bulk of the show.

Matt/Harriet: I didn't think it was going to be the way it was. It wasn't all M/H. A lot of it was just more getting into Matt's thoughts. It was very insightful and heartbreaking.

I have to defend Harriet though. I mean, some may think she's being self-involved and self-righteous and stuck up in her morals, but in reality she's doing what's healthy and best for her both in the past and in the present.

C'mon? Who, believing what she believes, wouldn't be kind of insulted at what he was saying? And why shouldn't she be defensive. From what we've seen of the beginning of her relationship with Matt, he's always questioned and trashed everything she believes and who she is. So why would you not see that she has put up defenses? I know I would always tense as to what Matt (or someone else) might say, if they usually are talking about one's religion all the time to question it and all that they do.

He questions not with an open mind, but just to challenge and debate every little crack in the belief. He's not there to hear things or want an explanation. Which is a huge reason why H/M can't be together now or ever, if something doesn't change with him or possibly how she feels about her faith. And if it was her, I think it definitely would be a shame. I think that even if he changed his tactics and the way he approached things, it might close the chasm they've dug. Even if he was willing to 'hear' her, it would definitely go along way. If he respected her enough to respect that she believes this for some reason he can't fathom, it would go a long way to rebuilding a relationship that is in tatters.

As for Matt on the whole and the beginning of the spiral, I have to say I saw that the writer 'Tim' wasn't real by the time people were declaring they had never heard of him. It was sad. And I wanted to strangle the singer who gave him the pills. She saw his pain, yes; but she should have known better to want someone to go down the same path she was on.

I really wished he had thrown those pills away. I thought he might after the revelation that he was talking about himself.

As for Danny in the midst of this, I was truly disappointed. I couldn't believe it. I am with those who said they did 'see' effort when he sat down with Matt. But have they not been through this before? Should they not know the signs?

And I thought that Danny was waaaay to into his 'happiness' to even try to be there for Matt. He wanted a simple answer, not the truth. He wanted to chalk it up to being 'what you and harriet always do' instead of seeing that they 'really' broke up.

I wanted Danny to say, 'What' up with you?' when Matt started snapping at him and Cal and going listless and fading in and out of the past and the present. I wanted him to care enough about his best friend to see his pain.

All in all I think it was a good episode. It had a different feel. But I was definitely missing Jack. I wanted him there. He makes my day when I see him. I love all of these characters, but by far, he's the standout to me on this show. His scenes always standout among the tens or hundreds

So this is how it feels when the couple you were rooting for gets togather? You get a stupid smile on your face when you are watching the episode, and you can't stop giggling - well who needs this? (I do, btw) I'm sorry, its been a while since I've been in a 'happy place' as far as tv couples are concern. And please don't call me a non believer for this, but I just don't feel anything for Matt/Harriet as a couple! I love Matt and I was absolutly heart broken for him - but I just want him to get over Harriet. I know, easier said than done. I'm one of those people who didn't see Danny/Jordan thing coming, but I was completely derailed in B-12. Thats the power of chemistry my friend.

Silly question, how are they doing the show (S60) with only 4 writers now? I mean in Wes' time, it looked like they had couple of dozen of writers in there!

Yeah, I feel exactly the same. Matt and Harriet....it's gettig old. When they where fightiing in The Harriet Dinner 2 I just wanted to scream "Enough! Stop fighting!" I felt like I was sitting in the backseat of a car and was listeing to two people in the fron seats who was fighting...THAT'S annoying. I also found myself smiling in the Danny/Jordan scenes. I have never rooted for a TV couple to get together before so this is fun! Well, I have rooted for House/Cameron for a whilöe now, but tyhey won't get together anytime soon so...Danny/Jordan, yay!
