I put alot of stock in fate. I kind of feel like some things are "meant" to happen, you can chose a path that conflicts with that but in my mind it's like "defying your destiny" so to speak. I think alot of my views on that stem from me being agnostic.

I do agree he "chose" her but I think we differ a little bit about how that came about.

You know, this is a little ironic that you're the agnostic and believe in fate and I'm the well non-agnostic and I don't put as much stock in it. I think God does have a plan for us, but I don't think he forces us to follow it. Plans change. People choose the wrong paths and get lost and sometimes they come back and they get a chance to do things differently. Their purpose in this world changes as they change. Their opportunities change and their abilities to do things change. God doesn't put a gun to our heads and say this it how it's gonna be. He puts people in ours lives and he puts us in situations that help show us what it is we should do. But it ends at should. We still have a choice.

What do you mean?

Why do you find that ironic, out of curiosity?

Perhaps I should have chosen my words more carefully, that fate and destiny are interchangeable both by myself and modern culture is weird because they are two separate things. Specifically because "fate" has a death connotation. but I digress. I think Danny "destined" to be Rebecca's father because I think it was the natural order of things was that it should be so. I think that alot of our lives are set out or ordained in that way that make the most logical sense. In our choices we can better out lot, so to speak, or make it worse. Looking at the father/daughter relationship I think that Danny was meant to find Jordan, meant to fall in love with her and so on...that all of those things should have happen and by embracing his destiny he was able to have all the love that both Danny and Becky could give him.

Either we're saying the exact same thing in different terms or we're saying the total opposite in the same way. I am, at this point, unsure.

I find it ironic, because you are putting faith in a higher power, that there is a plan in the universe out there for our maximum happiness. Yet you do not believe in God or a higher power. You are, of and in yourself, ironic. You are agnostic, which means you do NOT believe in anything. You don't believe in a higher power or a pre-destined plan/existence. When I think of agnosticism, I think of a person who thinks we come into this world and we make of it what we can on our own without a destiny or a plan for our lives either by the universe or by God, but that whatever we do is of our own making and that when we die, that's it. I don't think you're an agnostic so much as an atheist. You don't believe in God, but you do believe in destiny. You think that things are meant to happen, which by the best of my reasoning, means that there is indeed a plan formed by something. Be it a higher power or just the universe in general.

I on the other hand, do believe there is a God and do believe He has a plan for my life. However I'm not sure how much stock I put in destiny, in a sense. I don't think God's plan for me is down to the point that he has determined every step I take in this life. I think it has more to do with how I could best serve Him and be strongest in my faith. I think more of the rest of it is something He wants me to decipher myself. He's guiding unsteady feet who will tremble and fall and make mistakes. But so long as I choose to get back up on the horse, He'll continue to take my hand and try to show me the ways I can go to reach that next step.

Agnosticism implies that a person is unsure or actually that there is no sure way to know a thing. My theory of destiny, kismet, whatever is really a belief that some things are meant to be as sure as gravity effects objects. Which really doesn't stand at odds to any Christan dogma because it's a widely held belief that someday there will be, has to be, must be, an Armageddon. I'm an temporal agnostic which by definition is a belief in neither the existence or non-existence of a higher power and also that I would accept that I was wrong should something come to show me that I was. I'm not an atheist, so lets just clarify that.

I think we'll just forgo the title then, shall we...and close this topic of convo, what do you say?

Wow. You guys got really philosophical. Avery, you were thinking of Atheism as Agnosticism. They're frequently confused.

So, when I think of Danny/Rebecca, I think of Danny yelling at everyone who wouldn't let him see her or hold her.

That was so love...him peering through the glass.

Aw, I remember being so pissed at Mary for suggesting he not hold her so he wouldn't get attached. Any father worth anything would want to be there for his daughter even if, in the end, it meant his heart would break just a little bit more.

I knew where Mary was coming from. I think I admired Mary for saying that because it's true about bonding through touch...she was all smarts, not alot of heart. He loved her before he even met her but I think holding a baby, when it's yours does something to you.

You're right about Mary. And I did like her. But that annoyed me because while she was right, it would never even be a choice to a father like Danny already was.

I agreed with her that he needed to get Jordan to sign the papers right away, just to give himself a better chance. Becky's future was way more important than any jinxing that may have come with that. It's a good thing Jordan was the woman she was and thought ahead.
