Heroes: Reborn may be one of this fall’s most highly anticipated new shows, but regardless of whether the Heroes spinoff gets extended for a second season, fans can expect at least one actor to bow out by the first season finale.
During an interview with People’s Choice at the NBCUniversal TCA party in Beverly Hills last week, Heroes: Reborn star Zachary Levi revealed that he won’t be sticking around past the first season of the NBC drama because he wants to challenge himself as a performer. “I’ve got one season and I’m playing it out. I only wanted to do one season. After doing Chuck, that was five years and an incredible adventure, but also an incredibly difficult one,” said Levi. “As much as I loved playing Chuck, there was also a lot of moments where I was like, ‘I’m playing Chuck. Again. And Again.’ As an actor, you want to challenge yourself. You want to play different things.” Levi said that the fact that Heroes: Reborn was originally pitched to him as a mini-series was partially what drew him to the project in the first place. “This seemed like the perfect fit for me because it was one, 13-episode mini-series and I got to do something very different. I don’t know what I’m going to do after and I don’t know what [the show is] going to do after, but to quell your concern, I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that same thing,” said Levi. “Even if they do continue it, it would be picking up somewhere else. And I love that. I think everything should be that.” Specifically, the actor said that if Heroes: Reborn returns for a second season, he could see the show doing something along the same vein as American Horror Story where some characters are carried over to the next season, but for the most part, new seasons focus on introducing new characters. As for what fans can expect from his character, Luke Collins, when the show finally airs, Levi said that from the trailer, you can tell that he’s a “bad man.” “I don’t know that I’m a bad man, but I’m [misunderstood], tortured, all those things,” said Levi. “[Luke Collins] is super dynamic, very complex, very layered and other things that I can’t tell you now, but…I thought, ‘Yeah, yeah.
