| Teen Actress Scout Taylor-Compton Missing By Associated Press August 24, 2005, 10:38 PM EDT APPLE VALLEY, Calif. -- Scout Taylor-Compton, star of the recent teen comedy "Sleepover," has been missing from her California home for nearly two weeks, officials and her publicist said Wednesday. A spokeswoman for the San Bernardino Sheriff said the young actress was likely a runaway. The 16-year-old was last seen at home on Aug. 12, according to a statement released by her family. "We sincerely appreciate everyone's attention and concern regarding Scout and are praying for her safe return," the statement read. "We have faith in the agencies working on the case and are optimistic that the outcome will be positive." One sheriff's deputy has been assigned to the case, and the family has hired a private investigator, said sheriff's spokeswoman Robin Haynal. Haynal said Taylor-Compton also goes by the name Desiree Compton. Besides 2004's "Sleepover," Taylor-Compton played a bit part in "13 Going on 30," with Jennifer Garner, and recently landed a leading role in the Bravo series "Hidden Howie." She's also appeared on WB's "Gilmore Girls" and worked in independent films and music videos. In June she finished filming an independent film called "Tomorrow Is Today" in New Jersey. The 16-year-old was reunited with her family Thursday, officials said, two weeks after vanishing from the family's home in Apple Valley, California. "On behalf of her family, we are very grateful to everyone for their concern and support in helping to find Scout," reads a statement from the girl's publicity firm. "We appreciate everyone's courtesy as the family recovers." Details are scant on Taylor-Compton's whereabouts for the past two weeks, but a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said that school friends had seen reports Wednesday that Taylor-Compton was AWOL and alerted school officials, who in turn contacted the Apple Valley Police Department. Deputies tracked down Taylor-Compton at a local residence and returned her to her family. Authorities say the actress appeared healthy, and there was no sign of criminal activity. The sheriff's department said Wednesday they were treating the case as a runaway. Taylor-Compton finished shooting the independent film Tomorrow Is Today in June. Her previous credits include the 2004 teen comedy Sleepover and a recurring role as Dean's sister, Clara, on Gilmore Girls. Pals: Abducted BY TRACY CONNOR DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER A beautiful young actress who starred in the tweener flick "Sleepover" disappeared almost two weeks ago - and her Hollywood buddies are banding together to find her. Scout Taylor-Compton, 16, a winsome strawberry blond on the brink of stardom, is listed as an "endangered runaway" by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She vanished from her family's Apple Valley, Calif., home Aug. 12, and family and friends fear she could have been abducted. "I don't think she would run away," said aspiring actress Manon Carrie, 15. "She left her phone home, and no one has heard from her." After Scout went missing, her parents began frantically calling all her friends. "Her mother said she was abducted a few days before in Houston, Tex., and that Scout basically got away from the guy and went to the police, and the cops brought her back to her parents," Manon said. "The next morning, she was missing again." But Houston cops had no record of an incident involving Scout, and her publicist, Kim Ikeda, wouldn't comment on the abduction, calling it "unrelated." "We're treating the case as a runaway juvenile," said a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, declining further comment. Scout's acting career began with the 1999 film "A.W.O.L.," which led to a recurring role as Clara on TV's "Gilmore Girls." Her big break came with last year's "Sleepover." LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Teen actress Scout Taylor-Compton, who disappeared from her home more than two weeks ago, has been found at a friend's house, police said on Thursday. Taylor-Compton, 16, star of the 2004 teen comedy "Sleepover," was last seen at her home in the Southern California community of Apple Valley on August 12 and was considered a runaway. "We received a tip from the Apple Valley School Police that she was at a house in Apple Valley," San Bernardino County Sheriff's spokeswoman Robin Haynal said. "We sent a deputy over there, picked her up and took her to the station." Haynal said Taylor-Compton, who lives with her father and stepmother, apparently left after a family disagreement. She was in good condition and cooperated with police. "She was a runaway juvenile. She just didn't want to be found," Haynal said. "She hasn't been harmed at all and she appears to be fine."
