'Iron Man' Star Battles 'Cowboys & Aliens' Robert Downey Jr. could star in the filmed depiction of one of society's eternal conflicts June 16, 2008 Continuing his transition from indie favorite to blockbuster star, Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly in negotiations to star in the high concept franchise pic "Cowboys & Aliens." Set up through DreamWorks and Universal, "Cowboys & Aliens" is viewed as a potential 2010 tentpole for the studios. Based on the graphic novel by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley, "Cowboys & Aliens" has been in development for a decade, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with script drafts coming in from folks including David Hayter ("X2: X-Men United"), Jeffrey Boam ("Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade") and Steve Oedekerk ("Evan Almighty"). The trade says the latest draft came from "Iron Man" and "Children of Men" scribes Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. The story is set in the Old West and focuses on a conflict between Apache and Western settlers which gets interrupted by a pesky alien invasion. Downey would play Zeke Jackson, a former Union officer and current settler. This will be a busy year for Downey, who follows up "Iron Man" with the late-summer comedy "Tropic Thunder" and then the Oscar hopeful "The Soloist" in November.

Hiya! Just saw this thread here. I have loved this guy for 10 years He is the inspiration behind my sobriety and am soooo glad he is still a staple to Hollywood after all he has been through

It's kinda strange that the last couple times he relapsed, although I was still useing, I suffered with him. It was the beginning of my own personal desire to get clean. When David Kelly canned him from Alley McBeal for violation of contract I was so crushed. As far as I know he has been sober since. Myself 6 months later.
Any movie he was in for a period of time I felt he was typecast as he always seemed to be the derranged drug addict. I assumed those were the only roles he could get but recently was proved wrong - Thank God! I am so proud that RDJ has been able to maintain his status in Hollywood because the place is very unforgiving for those who have suffered with addiction.
I adore him have always loved his acting ever since I was a teen in the 80's.
Not to mention he is HOTTTT!!!!

I know, there's a lot of RDJ references even in TV shows (Oz, for one). I'm so glad about everything happening to him right now. He's blessed, and a very good actor.
