Natalie and her family lived in Jerusalem until she was 3 years old. Due to her father's medical
training and career advancements, the family then moved to Washington D.C. in 1984, and then on to
Connecticut in 1988. They moved again to Long Island, New York in 1990. That's where she lived until her
acceptance to Harvard in 1999 which made her stay 4 years in Boston. She now lives in Soho, NYC.

She was discovered at age 11, by a Revlon model scout in a Long Island pizza parlor. This led to her getting her own acting agent,
which soon led to her highly successful film debut in The Professional (a.k.a. Leon in Europe).

Before the launch of her film career, Natalie appeared in many plays at Usdan Theater Arts Camp. She
played the dumb blonde, Dora, in Fiorello and the feminist Annie in Annie get your Gun.

She often portrays characters that are smart, mature, and grown-up for their age. She is known for getting
in and out of character very quickly. Oddly enough, Natalie says she has terrible stage fright, and is afraid
to miss her lines in live theater performances.

A straight-A student since grade school, she graduated with a slew of honors from her Long Island High
School (Syosset High School) in June 1999. She then decided to study Psychology in Harvard for 4 years
and graduated on June 5th of 2003.

Q U O T E S . A B O U T . N A T A L I E

"At fifteen, Natalie Portman has
already been compared to Elizabeth
Taylor and Audrey Hepburn
."

– Harpers and Queen (Oct 1996)

"The thing that strikes you most about her is her intelligence. I know she stuggles with this idea
that she's also become this glamour icon whoin real life is a serious college student. She's smart enough
to know there are a lot of options other than being an actor."
– George Lucas

"I always felt relaxed with her. She's articulate, very centered and smart. And she has a wicked sense of humor.
I never thought of her as a kid. I thought of her as a partner."
– Susan Sarandon

"She gives off a rosebud freshness that can't be faked. Her very skin seems to glow with the promise of
miraculous transformations."
– Ben Brantley, New York Times

"Natalie is the only person I know who is sophisticated and innocent simultaneously."
– Ashley Judd

"She's tremendously poised and incredibly talented, she can do whatever she wants to, and I don't mean
just acting."
– Stockard Channing

"She's so incredibly bright. And she's beautiful, but she has the ability to take that energy and pull it inside. You
can walk down the street with her and nobody will notice her, but then all of the sudden she does something,
and you go, 'Oh my God, what a beautiful woman.'"
– Matt Williams

"When you see Natalie you think of Audrey Hepburn—that kind of simplicity, and variety, and intelligence that's
genuinely there. Natalie doesn't have to do a whole lot to register something with an audience."
– Stockard Channing

"I wouldn't be surprised by anything she does. She has an incredibly strong home life and a great sense of
self-esteem. There are a lot of good actresses her age, but she has this core of dignity, health, grace and
innate intelligence that's a pretty formidable package when you put it all together."
– Susan Sarandon

"When she walks in the room, you fall a little bit in love with her."
– Andrew Southman

"There are not enough superlatives for this girl. She is such a gifted actress and then, to top it off, what she
looks like! I have this strong feeling that she is going to be a legend."
– Isaac Mizrahi, Vogue

"Natalie was so magnificent that not only was she crying during the last scene, but so were the other actors;
their mouths were agape at this girl."
– David Stone

"A gift to mankind; the next Elizabeth Taylor in the making."
– Isaac Mizrahi, Neon

Q U O T E S . B Y . N A T A L I E

"If I weren't an actor ? Oh, Lord knows,
maybe I'd be a professional
action figure
or something... "

– The Late Show with David Letterman (May, 2002)

"When you get older, you realize it's a lot less about your place in the world but your place in you. It's not how
everyone views you, but how you view yourself."
- Star Wars Insider (August, 2002)

"Sure. I've never dated a woman of anything like that, But, I mean, I think it's much more the person that
you fall in love with – and why would you close yourself off to fifty percent of the people?"
– Rolling Stone (June, 2002)

"Dreams are basically, like, the farts of the mind."
– Rolling Stone (June, 2002)

"Kids are she Shakespearean fools in Hollywood movies. They hold the keys to wisdom in their innocence."
– Rolling Stone (June, 2002)

"I don't go wagging my boobs around in people's faces."
– Rolling Stone (June, 2002)

"You're always part of the cycle of evil until you become the object of it."
– Premiere (June, 2002)

"We all want to believe that movie romance and real-life romance are synonymous. Love, after all, is
a hard concept for a thinking person to believe in. But I think you have to. Love is something you just have to take
and not question too much... Because you want to believe in it so much, right?"
– Empire (May, 2002)

"Smart women love smart men more than smart men love smart women."
– USA Weekend (May, 2002)

"I actually tried my first cigarette last year at school. I just figured, if many people are smoking, there must be
something to it, and before I pooh-pooh it I should at least know what it's about. I took one puff and I was like,
OK, I was right. There's nothing to it. They're just wrong – it's disgusting."
– Allure (May, 2002)

"I wonder how people decided that women were supposed to shave their legs and armpits."
– Allure (May, 2002)

"Breast implants gross me out. I don't think they're attractive at all."
– Allure (May, 2002)

"I have nice ears. I have no lobes, which was disappointing for a while, but I've gotten over it and learned to
love them. Being lobeless isn't the end of the world."
– IMDB.com (May, 2002)

"I wouldn't say I'm a good-goody, but I've never smoked, I don't drink and I've never tried drugs. Still, I don't
condemn people who do."
– Jump (January, 2001)

"I've wanted to be an astronaut, a doctor, a vet - these are things I've said in interviews. Before that, I wanted
to be a mermaid and a fairy."

"I'm really an 85-year-old midget."
– You (September, 1999)

"I couldn't be anorexic because I like food too much, and I couldn't be bulimic because I hate throwing up too much."
– You (September, 1999)

"Well... I'm more spiritual than religious. I believe there is a power and the instinct and intuition that runs
our life. I think one should be like a Jedi and follow one's instinct."
– Aftonbladet (August, 1999)

"I really hate being self-conscious—and being conscious of being self-conscious."
– Dolly (August, 1999)

"I can totally imagine myself not being an actress, but it's a little stranger now that I've started to get more

– Vogue (August, 1999)

"I used to butcher my Barbies. I would draw hearts on their cheeks. I would give them haircuts and I would
keep going because it would be uneven and they would be left bald."
– USA Today (May, 1999)

"I don't love studying. I hate studying. I like learning. Learning is beautiful."
– Interview Magazine (March, 1996)

"I'm going to college. I don't care if it ruins my career. I'd rather be smart than a movie star."

That obvious huh? I'm a huge fan (obviously) and I've been trying to look for a thread of hers for the past a few days now but I couldn't find one that's why I asked. And when I found out there was nothing at all... I got to planning the OP asap. Hee.

Added. Me, too. What was the first movie you saw of hers and made you go... 'wow, she's amazing'? Mine was Anywhere But Here. I've been a fan ever since and tried to watch almost all her movies. I love her face too... it's almost flawless.

Thanks again, ladyle! I did think she would be one of those who'd have multiple threads in here. I'm bummed too that I wasn't able to be here at those times when she used to have a board. When I registered, her board was already closed.

Ooh... I've yet to watch The Other Boleyn Girl too. I heard she's phenomenal in it. She wowed her co-stars.

And I'm a bit torn about her scene with Jim Sturgess. I love him and I think he and Natalie look good together but then... they play brothers and sisters in the movie.

Natalie was wonderful in The Other Boleyn Girl. Even though Anne was a scheming, manipulative bitch you sympathized with her, understood that that's what she needed to do in order to survive. I liked her a lot better than the weak and naive Mary. The scene where she's about to be beheaded...she looked absolutely terrified but she was still trying to put on a brave face.

And Jim and Natalie; I thought they had A LOT more chemistry than Eric and Natalie. The incest scene was disturbing (poor George, he looked so scared) yet at the same time...kind of hot.

BTW...has anyone seen Goya's Ghosts? I love Natalie and Javier Bardem...but at the same time the movie looks boring, I'm not sure if I should rent it or not.

I love that she's gonna play a lying scheming manipulative bitch. It's so different from the other roles she's done. She's almost a villain, ain't she? In some scenes, I heard she does play villain-y. But the fact that she could pull it off is amazing.

I like the sound of that. And George looking scared... why? Did Anne force him or something? O.o In spoiler tags, if you must.

I haven't seen it yet but I heard some fans talking about how she was great in it. Well... she's always great in everything but you could give the movie a try. A Natalie experience is always fun.

Btw, do you want to be added to the fans list?

Spoiler:
OK so what happens is that Anne miscarries after having Elizabeth, her relationship with the king is on the rocks already and she doesn't want him to know she miscarried, so she tries to coerce George into having sex with her so she can get pregnant again. They almost do it but don't. It's actually a very sad scene but weirdly hot because Jim & Natalie have great chemistry, too much to play brother and sister.

Same here. I mean, nothing against her, of course. She's a good actress and I do enjoy some of her movies but Natalie is just... overpowering. She outshines all the rest in a movie. Especially in this one wherein she plays the most colorful and more complex Boleyn sister.

zietke, woah. That does sounds really interesting. I can't wait to see the film! Argh, the waiting is driving me insane! Added you, btw.

Spoiler:
So basically, she did all that just in order to survive... and instead, gets beheaded for it. Ironic. I can't wait to see Natalie in her role.
