The first season of HBO's In Treatment. Mia impressed many TV critics with her performance as the gymnast Sophie who is evaluated for possible suicidal tendencies by a psychotherapist played by Gabriel Byrne.

Defiance. In this World War II epic directed by Ed Zwick, Mia played the role of Chaya.

Amelia. Hilary Swank and Richard Gere star in this Mira Nair-directed biopic about Amelia Earhart. Mia will play the role of Elinor Smith, another female aviator.

Upcoming films:
Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland as Alice. This story takes place many years after the original, Alice is now 19 and doesn't remember her earlier visit to Wonderland. The White Rabbit seeks Alice's help to end the Red Queen's reign of terror. Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter also star.

The Kids Are All Right, an independent film centering on a lesbian couple played by Julianne Moore and Annette Bening, and their two teenage children who upset the family dynamic when they decide to seek out their biological father.

Untitled Gus Van Sant film. Mia plays the female lead in this dark coming-of-age drama and unconventional romance. Directed by Gus Van Sant (Milk, Good Will Hunting).

Jane Eyre. Begins filming in early March. Will play up the Gothic aspects of the classic novel. Mia plays the title character, with Michael Fassbender set to play Rochester. Directed by Cary F ukunaga, critically acclaimed for Sin Nombre.

As Alice undergoes her latest trip through Wonderland, the shy, self-conscious girl at the start of the film, is transformed into a strong, confident young woman. “In the beginning, Alice is very awkward and uncomfortable in her skin,” Wasikowska continues. “So her experience in Wonderland is her reconnecting with herself and finding herself again, and finding she has the strength to be more self-assured and figure out what she wants.” Playing such an iconic role as Alice was a dream come true for the Australian-born actress, although she admits to feeling a little intimidated at first. “There’s a lot of pressure in a way,” she notes. “Everyone thinks they know who she is, and you can’t please everyone. So the hardest thing is making her your own, and making yourself comfortable with her and confident in the decisions you make.” “I just liked her quality,” says Burton of his nineteen-year-old star who underwent four auditions before winning the part. “I always like it when I sense people have that old soul quality to them. Because you’re witnessing this whole thing through her eyes, it needed somebody who can subtly portray that.”
