But Liam says life now is far a cry from his childhood growing up with brothers, and fellow actors, Chris and Luke in Melbourne, Australia.

"I was a naughty kid," he laughed to British magazine Now.

Before making it big in Hollywood a 17-yar-old Liam landed a role in Australian soap opera Neighbours, which also launched the careers of Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue and Margot Robbie.

But his teenage fame was short lived and he ended up sanding floors before his Hollywood break came about.

"When I came back to school after Neighbours I just didn't want to be there anymore. My head wasn't in the same place and I knew I had to get out. I was the troublemaker in school, I got kicked out of class loads of times. So I left school and went on laying floors while I auditioned for parts," he explained.

It was 24-year-old Liam's older brother Chris who made it big in tinseltown first, which Liam says left him feeling deflated until he landed a role in 2010's The Last Song.

"I was sitting in my manager's house with Chris. He'd booked Thor and we were so happy for him. But at the same time I realised I'd probably have to go back home. I was devastated and I felt like an idiot for leaving Australia," Liam reminisced.

Kimmel's post Academy Awards bash has been a tradition of awards season for the past nine years with previous guests for the hour long special including Ben Affleck and Tom Cruise. This year, the host has scored a lineup that includes nominees and some of his favourite guests.

Best Actress nominee Meryl Streep will join Best Director favourite Martin Scorsese along with Captain Phillip's newcomer Barkhad Abdi and this year's Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres.

Also dropping by will be House of Cards star Kevin Spacey who will serve as the lead guest while big names like Tom Hanks and Morgan Freeman will also make an appearance.

Fans of the Hemsworth brothers are in for a treat as both Chris and Liam are scheduled to appear along with Christoph Waltz, Ben Kingsley, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Seth Rogen, Andy Garcia, Adam Driver, Queen Latifah, Gary Oldman and Anjelica Huston.

Kimmel's A-list guest list is largely helped by the fact he shoots his show across the street from the Dolby Theatre where this year's Oscars will take place on Sunday night.

The show will air live on ABC after the 86th Academy Awards and will also include a popular comedy video segment following the success of last year when Kimmel premiered the trailer for the star-filled Movie: The Movie Twovie. The trailer became a viral hit, notching up more than three million hits on YouTube.
